Few questions about duck hunting

So I decided to go out this year and start hunting ducks for the first time ever

I've a couple of questions:

1- When I bought the authorization, it had some weird statement that I've no idea what does it mean:
MIGRATORY BIRD HUNT AUTHORIZATION MUST SELECT SPECIES HARVEST CARDS TO HUNT

Any idea what does this mean?

2- I already plan to go hunt in a couple of spots but I am going in a trip to Olympic national park next weekend, anyone hunted there before? I looked it up and was not able to find whether hunting is allowed there or not?

I would not attempt to hunt on a National Park.  I cannot think of an exception to this rule.  Find some open state property somewhere.

So you say it's not allowed? Cause I looked it up and It didn't say that. I am just having hard time finding which GMUs belong to the forest

1.   You need a harvest card to hunt snow geese, brant, all geese in SW WA,  and sea ducks.
2.   There is no hunting allowed in National Parks.

That's not entirely true, but it is for this state.


mmeshref,  I notice you mention GMU's. Birds are not managed or regulated by GMU (Game Management Unit). So don't confuse yourself by trying to figure out which GMU you're in.

Cool, so now only thing remaining is to know from where I can get these harvest cards and whether I need them to hunt or just for reporting after the season's end

I didn't find it when I was buying the license nor it's listed on the WA hunting site.

You don't need a harvest card unless you will be hunting geese, sea ducks or brant. If you will be hunting those birds, Fred Meyer will have the harvest cards.

I'd be probably hunting sea ducks. I just bought the license yesterday and didn't get any harvest cards. That's why I am puzzled by this?

I believe the sales system calls them “Report Cards”

Have you shot a shotgun before?  Do you know the difference between species and bag limits of each species?  I would do a little studying up before you go blazing away.  You might not like the results if you get checked.

If you have never had a sea duck authorization card then you need to call wdfw licensing division and they will enter you into the computer while you are on the phone and then you go back to your licensing dealer and pay .50 and they will then be able to produce a card for you. I had to do this last week for my kids.Here it is:

A special migratory bird hunting
Authori zation and har vest record cards
are Required to hunt for :
• Sea ducks (harlequin, scoter, long-tailed duck,
goldeneye)
in western Washington
• Snow goose in Goose Management Area 1
• Brant
• Band-tailed pigeon
To hunt during these seasons, you must obtain a
special migratory bird hunting authorization and
harvest record cards for the species you are hunting
and carry these documents while hunting. If you did
not have a harvest record card the previous year you
can apply for one online at wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/
permits/migratory or by contacting a WDFW office. You
do not need to apply every year. Authorizations and
harvest record cards are only available at WDFW license dealers.
