Idaho Hunt 2011

Idaho hunt was really slow this year.  I was the only one out of the group to shoot a decent buck, although my dad did bag a decent female cougar.  We also lost one deer to the wolves.

Nice job guys. You must be mistaken. That can't be a wolf kill. They only prey on very old, very young, or otherwise vulnerable animals. Also, everyone knows that wolves eat everything off of the kills they make, they wouldn't just kill and eat some guts and leave. They don't just kill to kill.

Believe me I'm not mistaken.... My cousin shot it and hit it near the brisket we tracked it through the snow for about 1/2 mile. The blood trail suddenly stopped and there were no deer track either, only about 5 wolf track. Then they began to howl and we were only about 50 yards away. They killed the wounded deer and what you see is the result of interrupted feasting. Believe me it was wolves. And my father was set up on a high vantage and the cat was stocking some deer when he shot it. About 100 yard shot. We've hunted Idaho for 12 years now and this year we saw 3 cats shot one, shot at a dog, and had a deer killed by a pack. For the price of the tag, it is beginning to become a brutal battle between the. Natural predators over there....

You ever hear of sarcasm? If not, it means kind of a mocking, ironical statement. Usually meant, as in this case, to amuse someone. Also, in case you don't know what a "wink" means (  ) , see above. (That means I'm laughing.)  Too bad you guys couldn't have gotten some of those wolves.
After reading your last post, I could be full of s&it. It seems the wolves did prey upon a vulnerable animal (wounded), and if you did indeed interrupt the feeding, they may have eaten all of it. Maybe the wolf lovers are right after all!?    That was sarcastic too.

I figured it was sarcasm, but then I thought; "he migh be a damn wolf lover" so I figured I would tell some of the story and fill him in... But it's just gotten worse every year over there. An animal that is a prestigious predator that can produce two litters of pups a year, which can consist of 5 or 6 dogs needs a more productive means of conservation. Idaho has began to implement a better program for the wolf population. No quotas in some units now and the tag is 31 bucks in some units with the ability to trap them also.  I think they may have actually read some of the letters that were sent to them. The dogs are affecting the economy also. In the last few years you had to buy a tag online prior to season because they would be sold out. This yea when I got over there during the last portion of the hunt... There were over 7000 tags left. No one wants to pay the price and fight those damn dogs. It's nuts!

The current regs are due to the wolf being Federally delisted last May.  Gave Idaho the freedom to manage the wolves as they see fit, without federal interferance.  Nice buck by the way man

They have been delisted ever since I've been hunting there.... Idaho fish and game stated they were not providing any funds toward hunting violations regarding wolves. So it looks like I won't have to worry much about those few dogs that are taking dirt naps.

Seems you guys had an awesome hunt ... Gettin the coug was worth the hunt alone not counting the encounter with the wolves ....did you guys have a wolf tag ...? because I am sure they returned sooner or later......

Did we have a wolf tag.... Ummm... I could have acquired one rather easily had it been necessary.... We had one rifle with 3 bullets because my hunting   Counter parts underestimate the Possible outcomes of some scenarios and I had my pack with knife and equipment. I'm not scared of dogs, I would take em on with my kershaw. By the way, it's states a transport tag. Therefore, as I understand it, if I don't plan on transporting the flee infested mut, no transport tag required. Pulling ditch duty.

Idaho "delisted" them and held a hunt a few years ago.  There was no hunt last year, because some judge in Montana decided that the Federal listing superceded the state delisting.  They were Federally delisted on the 10th of May 2011, paving the way for the states to allow hunting for them without being shut down by a lawsuit.  That is when Idaho planned the hunt and started selling tags.  If I remember right they dropped the non resident prices for them to $31 in certain areas around July.
