For yotes I'm not worried about them hearing me. If they do, they're getting shot at on their way out of what was going to be my stand. Smell/sight is the biggest issue. If they're close enough to hear you, they're probably going to smell you anyways and you're SOL. I always glass going into a stand. If I see a dog running when I'm about to get into one, I'm walking for another 30 minutes.
Have shot several on stands within 50 yds of a road. It's all about isolation and terrain. Get on the Google maps man. Think like a dog. As far as cats are concerned, we hunt timber and sneak on trails till we find a spot. Never figure we're gonna shoot one on the way, rather string one in. So don't go stomping, call and bring 'er in. I think scouting is more key here than it is with deer. Can't tell you how many would've been stands should've been.
