I used to have one. Actually- it was probably one of the first ones around in this state. If you need 3 1/2" then I think they are they absolute best option in a pump gun. If you can get by with 3" then I would go for an original 870. The 3 1/2" 870's suck in my opinion. I know 7 guys that have them and they all have major issues. The Nova is pretty fool proof. They are kind of noisey though- i.e they rattle a lot! They also seem kind of loose? I have never really heard of too many mechanical issues with them though. And they are pretty cheap.  :twocents:

I probably have over eight thousand rounds through my nova and its still going strong, I love mine and have had no need for another shotgun,

I have taken ducks, quail, pheasant, geese and even deer with mine

I also took third place in a turkey shoot at the local gun range with it.

I was duck hunting today and met a guy named Dale from Auburun that showed me how much his rattled.  I would not try and use that gun for predator hunting :yike:  It did have a nice paint job though :IBCOOL:

my Nova is my go-to pump action and I see no need to get any other pump. Looking at one in 20 ga now. Mine is a tank, and has handled light loads and 3 1/2 in loads all the same. Ive taken ducks, geese, and deer with mine

The Benelli Nova's are great guns for the price.  I had worn out my first one.  Then purchased a new one, just as a back up pump.  Other than chokes rusting in the barrel if not property cared for they are bullet proof.
BPS are also great pump guns as they bottom eject.  I wore one of those out in my younger years.  They are picky if you pull the trigger mech. out and the half moon guide gets turned.  They won't shoot.  Lesson learned.  The Nova and BPS are my go to pumps.  I also carry a beater 870 when salt hunting as a back-up.  I usually always bring two guns with me.
The gun I typically shoot all the time is my semi-auto Benelli SBEII,.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

Yeah I have an 870 wingmaster, it's old and tired. It was handed down to me so I'm ready to put it in the safe and save it for my son. I was also looking at the mossberg 835 I believe it was but I haven't heard to many good things about mossberg :dunno:

Go with the Super Nova as it has a different recoil system.  I bought one from a member here for my son last year. He had an 870 in 20ga that he liked, but wanted a 12ga and was open to something different. He loves that Nova.  Everything he aims at drops!

And yes... Moving this thread to the guns and ammo section...

I grew up shooting a Mossberg 835 and loved it.  Yes it was loose but thats what I like in a duck gun, it didnt matter how dirty it got, it just kept on working.  I think of it as the AK-47 of shotguns.  I had to repair the safety once and it didnt eject 31/2 shells that well, but heck I never shot them much.  I mainly just shot 3 inch.

I shot a crud load of upland birds and waterfowl with my 870 express. I also had good luck with the Browning BPS 10ga. I had a Nova, and sold it to my brother in-law. My go to shotgun now is a 12ga BPS, hard to beat. If you have the $$ to spend, the browning BPS is hard to beat!

You can rattle in a buck with the forearm of a nova :chuckle:

I'd get a supernova if I were you. I like the looks of the BPS but I have heard that they are kind of a pain to take down and clean?

I shoot a pump Mossberg model 500 with no issues.  I have killed yotes, deer, pheasants, ducks, geese, and a few cats ;) with it.  The gun cost me 189 bucks in Idaho :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL:

Nova is a great gun. You can adjust the drop with shims and make it a good fit. It will kick your A$$ with 3 1/2" turkey loads.

I have one and I really dont like it. I grew up on 870s I love em. Ideally I would like an SXIII and an 870 super mag as a backup

i have a super nova with the max 4 on it and it has been great. used it for upland ducks geese turkey trap etc. nice to have 3 1/2 capability and the coating seems to be rock solid and its easy to disassemble and clean. would recommend one any day. it rattles a little  bit but who cares. its not falling apart.

:yeah:  I lined the inside of the forend with moleskin.  It was very annoying over my shoulder sneaking along while turkey hunting.

I got the 28 inch barrel but would do the 26 if I was to buy another.  With that 3 1/2 inch action it is a really long gun, especially for upland and turkieys.

I wish I had gotten the bottom ejecting gun as it turns out my boy will end up shooting left handed.
