I didn't read through all the posts here, but I was up there today and just got home about an hour ago.

My buddy and I were planning to do a climb out in the Tatoosh today. We were on the road to Reflection Lake, right above the Narada Falls parking lot and heard about 10 shots fired. They sounded funny and the first thought I had was avalanche control, but they don't do that there. Not 5 seconds after the shots were fired an NPS suv went flying up the road towards Paradise. We continued on with our hike

When we came down to the Narada Falls parking lot to leave, we were asked for ID and our license plate number by Pierce County Sheriff. They told us to get packed up and head down the mountain, and to not pick up any hitch hikers. 3 other check points later we were out of the park.

The cavalry is up there, Longmire had at least 50 vehicles up there and we saw plenty of other heavily armored vehicles heading up the road with officers in full gear.

It was really sad to hear what actually happened when I got home. I can't believe some people can act this way.

 Anyone in homes near by had better be prepared now that its dark. I can't believe they let it go this long, dogs should have been released hours ago to keep it from going into the night, that guy could turn up anywhere now.

I'm not sure he's going to get down the mountain anytime soon. The shooting was up high and there is a lot of fresh snow, making it hard to walk. Even with snowshoes we were sinking 6-8" with every step, I'd be surprised to see him come out alive. Although, the news did report that his vehicle had "survival gear" in it.

The news just showed a person of interest. He is believed to have assault rifles and survival gear.

 Exactly to my point. If you were being chased in there would you expel all your energy increasing your elevation in the snow or would you be heading low to get out of it?

It's a long ways down in some rough country to get out of the snow though from up where he was. Wet, cold, windy, little food...I dont know if it's known what other gear he has on him but it sounds like he fled quick with just a rifle in hand. That isn't going to get him to far in those conditions. Plus weather is moving in

survival gear would do you no good in this situation. a decent jacket then it would be cold as sheet but hes gonna have to walk a lot of creeks once he gets below the snow lvl so he cant be tracked by dogs and just keep moving to stay warm. be prepared to loose a couple toes to frostbite. i would trade that survival gear for sandwich for energy cuz hes gonna need it, and i wouldn't stop moving till i hit another state. they are better off going in tomorrow morning after he laid awake all night in the cold, hell be tired and frozen and be less of a threat. they'll catch him fast. especially if hes been running with all his "survival gear" on sweating like crazy. heck they might find a nice Popsicle in the morning.

Just saw it on KOMO 4 news. Sounds like the guy may be prepared to survive the night in the hills.
