In the market for a new tent stove.
« on: January 03, 2012, 11:07:00 PM »
After a bit of discussion with my better half, I am being "allowed" :chuckle: to make an investment in a decent tent stove this year.  I have narrowed down my choices to Kwik Kamp and Four Dogs(but if I a missing other worthy contenders, please let me know).  I will be heating a 12X14 canvas tent + 12X10 cookshack sometimes.  Any recommendations out there?  The stove will be always be used for road camping, so weight isn't an issue.  I want good burn time as I have had tent stoves in the past and really don't want something I need to stoke in the middle of the night.  Any thoughts on the subject would be appreciated.

Also, does anyone know what kind of deals can be found at the sportmans shows on stoves?  Thanks again!

better off building your own, built mine out of an old hot water tank, works great, still had coals in it after 28 hours

Im a little concerned about the wear on a lightweight stove like a Riley, kni-co, sims, etc.  Looking for a more heavy duty, all night burner.

No folding stoves in a wall tent that's not horse packed in.  Sacrifice too much burn time. I have a 14 x 16 tent with an adittional 8 x 14 room attached that I heat with the outfitter size cylinder stove. I use this late season in NE WA with no problems at all. The yukon size would be even better.

Stove Kit and build your own out either a 55 or 30 gallon drum

I got the kit, just have not got the drum yet. I'm going to go with 30 gallon for my tent.

Cylinder stove, they were at the Puyallup show two years ago(didn't go last year) and they had a pellet attachment on a cylinder stove that I bought, it burns all night.  Not warm enough with pellets when the temp goes below 5 degrees but you can burn wood when you close off the pellet attachment.

Do you know how they get around the non EPA certified stove requirement in wa, Or, and CA? I wanted to get one of those barrel kits from Harborfreight, nor northern tool but they say they don't ship here. And the closes one is in Boisie ID i think...  I know my bro used the door off an old stove and used a large wheel for the body and welded everything else up...
