early morning or afternoon sucess
« on: January 23, 2012, 10:36:13 AM »
so i have a week left of hunting and it hasn't been real successful lately and seeing all of your limits is getting me down. i almost always hunt the early morning . how has your success been from early morning or afternoon hunts? which seems to be more productive? i want to go east this week but will probably stay on west side due to cash flow issues. probably skagit or whatcome counties. any tips help ill hunt mid week so i wont steel your spots this weekend.

We went back to where we were last week, where you ended up being. We shot eight before we ran out of shells :bash: :bash: Not the best shooting day. We did manage to get eight. Heard alot of shooting around all of the nearby QH sites. They flew all day in the crappy weather. we left at 2. But did fly more than usual later. I certainly feel ya. The water was all open btw. Heard shooting all the time we were there. Good luck, and if I see/here anything I will let you know.

Hit the tide flats just off Fir Island in the Skagit unit on Saturday, only one bird for four guys.  There was some shooting out in the salt water to the west.  Otherwise, the Island and surrounding tidal areas were real quiet!

We did see a lot of Ducks flying up high.  Looked like they were going from the salt water and flying inland to the farm fields.

We also saw about a thousand snow geese flying inland.  Otherwise, I'm getting tired of not shooting too.

Good luck to you this week.

Shot afternoon limits all last week.  Then morning limits on Sat. & Sun.  Just depends on the weather.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

Usually  morning is best, but it depends on where you are hunting and the weather.

My very first limit out I started hunting in the mourning. I got one duck right when shooting light opened. After that, I hardly saw any ducks until about 11. That was a weird day though, but it all depends I guess. Don't you wish that you could type in any question, and it would be answered  :chuckle:

hunt in SW, so dunno if itll help much for the areas you been hunting  :dunno:, but i have a ton of birds come in first hour of shooting light, some after that mingle in after that and then for the rest of the day just flyers that dont seem to have any interest to land. mide season afternoon was great, this late for me early mornings the way to go.
