Ethanol and outboards
« on: February 17, 2012, 11:24:42 AM »
Be aware
I will be changing the entire way I fish and fill the boat
$1500 repair bill I religously used Marine formula STABIL and still had that crap eat my motor from the inside
I will now fill cans at the marina and store as empty as I can over the winter
lesson learned the hard way

I stopped using that crap a couple years ago.  I now use SeaFoam.  Seems to actually work.  Getting hard to find gas without ethanol anymore.

If you can find a CFN gas stop they have ethanol free premium gas at at least 1 pump, thats where I fill up, its a bit more expensive but beats the alternative. Its very easy to become a CFN member too !!

:yeah:  I use it for my v-drive and seafoam brought it back to life.  Read the seafoam web page and sounds like one of the 1st additives invented because of some fishermen tiered of always having to take apart their outboard motors to clean.

You can go to pure-gas.org to find stations who have non-ethanol fuel.

Stabil smells like $hit too.  I started to have problems with all the carburetors on my Stihl equipment.  I switched to SeaFoam and have had zero problems since.

Do not take a whiff of that seafoam either.  If kids huff that they would be brain dead in a flash.

Been using seafoam for about 3 years now. Before that every year the small jets on my outboard were clogging up. Since I have been using Seafoam no more clogged jets, just routine maintenance now.

Does seafoam prevent the ethanol from breaking down and attracting water ??

From what I read yes, The thing I am not sure about is the corrosion that the ethanol caused in VST  tank not sure if it helps with that
