you could hunt the closed road areas , I personally wouldn't hunt a general rifle hunt in wa from horseback , muzzy would be my choice if I were you. An hour or two in on horseback in the dark could get you away from the crowds. Sounds like a blast

I think early muzzleloader season would be a good time for that as well. Lots of places to go where you could ride in behind locked gates. I would guess that the hardest thing will be finding a place where you can camp with a motorhome and hunt right out of camp. I would probably check into the Okanogan area, maybe around Twisp, or Omak. I just think National Forest would be your best bet for camping with horses and an RV.

:sry:   Don't know what I was thinking, I guess I had deer on my mind for some reason. Didn't think to look and see that it was posted in the elk forum!

For elk I guess I would think about hunting somewhere around St Helens in the Gifford Pinchot NF, if I had horses.

Here's a link that may help you out a little bit I found a few years back.  http://mikereidconstruction.com/Washington%20Horse%20Trails/downloadable_maps.htm
Look on the west side NF websites for horse camps too.  A couple that come to mind off the top of my head are Kalama Horse Camp and Mt Adams Horse Camp.  Just google both the camp names.
I spend most of my riding time on the east slopes of the Cascades, simply because I like it over there.  Dry camping, highlined, day rides out out of camp stuff.  Once in awhile an overnighter.  Many of the places I go you could get your MH too.
PM me if you want some east slope ideas.
And no, I don't take my horses hunting here in WA.  I modern and too many wingnuts.  Not to mention my new #1 trail horse is a buckskin and I don't think I could hang enough orange off him to keep some yahoo from thinking he's an elk.   :o
Just remember, NF requires certified weed fee hay and hay products if you choose to stay on NF land.

Fife's Peak on 410 has a nice horse camp and you could either ride in the Little Naches side or head up to Pleasant Lake on the Bumping side. As noted earlier I would look to the Black Powder season rather than general firearms.

If you are going westside, I would plan to use the horses to ride behind a closed gate a couple hours.  You should be able to get into some unpressured elk and have a great hunt.

If you are hunting muzzy I would disregard the fife's peak off of 410 comment because it is permit only so without a permit you might get in a little trouble.  On the other hand the hunting would be great and you would have the place to yourself! :chuckle:
