Follow up your shots!
« on: March 10, 2012, 05:27:42 PM »
Last season on opening day two different hunters fired at a buck.  A friend talked to one of the hunters and he said he shot from about four hundred yards and then another guy down below got off a round or two.  Neither went looking for it.  Four days later another friend said he saw all the ravens and magpie in the country down by these rocks near some burnt timber.  I walked down there and found the buck.  It was just behind a pile of rocks, but out in the open.  Too bad, I was looking for a buck just this size, not too big, but mature.  Well the scavengers ate it and someone else got the head.

It's a shame that a REAL hunter didn't get a chance at that beast.

I found this guy a couple years ago in the same type situation  :bash: it was the next day that I found him! The meat was bad but I tagged him so it wasn't a total waste! I don't have any field shots because I didn't shoot him so it didn't feel right, and I left the head out side on the garage that's why he looks so bad. I'm thinking about re-doing the horns, he's a nice buck better thatn I've ever shot  :bash:

Why pull the trigger if you aren't going to follow up ?
Bad form and not ethical.

You'd be amazed how stupid some really are!!!  I watched a guy shoot a spike bull at 5 yards.... Said he thought he missed cause it didn't fall... I told him he hit it and it was a good shot... He got on his radio to somebody for a while... I asked if he wanted help tracking it... He said his friends would help... Went back there the next day... His tracks went straight up ridge!!!! I followed the elk tracks 40 yards down hill... As the crow flys the elk was down about 20 yards from where he was standing!!! The bull was crawling with maggots... I cut the head off... They showed up that evening again and I made him notch his tag on it and let him know how disgusted I was with him...   :bash:

Crying shame to see an animal go to waste like that. Well, I know nature didnt let it waste, but still...the animal deserved better.

What a bunch of crap.

There are some people who shouldn't be called hunters. I used to work with a guy who has "missed" more animals than you'd believe. People like that should stay home and find another hobby since they're not willing to put in the work necessary for hunting.
