Callie's First Turkey
« on: April 09, 2012, 10:08:11 AM »
Finally after three years of getting over fears of recoil, missing, the feelings of actually killing something.
Well Saturday started out in Colville trying to find birds that weren't over-henned and under-gobbled but no dice.We did end up stalking a flock with a nice Tom where She learned the exhilarartion of a shot and slight dissapointment of a miss. But undeterred She was ready to go.Sunday found to be empty so we headed home. About noon we neared a spot in Lincoln cty I knew held birds, as we round the corner a nice Tom was standing in the road...alone. So we decided real fast it's two outs bottom of the ninth and we're down 1-0. So we just parked fast bailede out and dove into a brush pile just in the woods. Figured can't hurt. My friend that went along quickly made a couple yelps and with out care of the vehicle he just saw or the three weird object diving into the woods he came to find that hen??? Walked right up to 25 yds and Callie was not about to miss this time...and She didn't. Nice Rio 18# and 9" beard. My phone is being strange so I'll try and post a pic soon....Turkeydancer...you would've been proud She had nerves of steel!

Great job Callie!!!  Awesome bird!!
Lord , we've been here on days before
and often times you've let me score
Now do you think that on this day
you could send a gobbler down my way?
And , if not , just let me say--
you've given me another day
to hunt the bird I love the best.
I don't mind sharing with the rest

Thanks all...She was one proud girl last night in our neighborhood.
@ TD...the pressure for me is now I put the notion of a sinlge season slam in her head for her first three birds. So we're taking her into Toad country on Sunday, plus the friend that went with us as a few hanging around his place near Raininer that he's saving for a youth. So that's ou plan. But foremost is to go out with her and have some MORE memory making times!

Good job and fun times!
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming, "WOO HOO! WHAT A RIDE!!"

:yike: Not the toad, he eats log trucks for lunch and then uses their grills to pick the log pieces out of his teeth.        :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

But I would be glad to hear that she took that phantom Eastern monster out.  Let me know if you need a place for a Merriam.
