Oops. I meant ripper. But anybodies advise would work.
Feeling a little invisible.

Any distress call can and will work.  I have called in several bears with a javelina call.  Not many of those running around in the woods here in WA and ID.  I personally like Bearmanric's and Rainshadow's calls and I like their raspy loud calls.  I think for bear they convey bigger game than the higher pitch of a cottontail, however a cottontail call will work, I know this for a fact.  Put alot of emotion and distress into your call, whatever type the box says it is, that is the key, IMHO.

I've taken this tag pretty serious and from what I've seen years past by May 18th we should have a bear.  What sucks about this tag is every time I Speak about my spring bear permit someone mentions a bear in their yard yesterday, like there crawling around everywhere.   The truth of the matter is they're right, except where I'm hunting.  I've been out 8 times so far and I hunt my A#$ off till noon then spend 3 hours driving around looking for fresh sign.  Mind you we all have DNR keys so where back in the hills,  driving can be productive hunting and searching for fresh sign.  From the look of Rippper's post he's been hunting twice as hard as me and I've put in some time and there is not allot out presently.  I'm going to hunt tomorrow,  Good luck to all.

Machias, thank you for input. I called for 45 min. Seen two yotes. Think I will pack the call. But save it for getting a located bear closer. Going to switch back to walking, I have seen more when moving around.

I will be on day's all next week I will hunt everyday except Wed. My son has a dr appt at 6:00.

These last couple of days my enemy has been the wind. I sat the thick stuff an Friday with the plan to sit until dark. I got in there about 2:00. Snuck in as quietly as I could and just sat still for about an hour. The wind swirled then changed directions on my so I decided to reposition. It's really thick and nasty in there and any movement you made is noisy as can be. After sitting for about 15 minutes the wind is at my back.  Grrrrr I decide to just sit it out knowing it will change again. It did but after a while it was pointless to sit the any longer. It just wasn't going to happen. I packed up and got out of there.

I called my girlfriend and had her meet me with my son and we did some road hunting. I thought with the wind like it was that it would be a good excuse to explore new territory and spend time together as a family. We found some nice grassy spur roads that we tried to walk, but no matter what direction the wind was when when we stared it always ended up at our back. I had the same thing happen today when H2O and I tried to hunt. Every single time the wind was all over the place. Found a big fresh pile of poo today, saw a beaver and a deer and that was it. Had some fun with the deer, it was directly down wind from us but it still started walking right toward us. We started doing some kissing sounds and that him in to about 35 yards before he changed his mind and walked off. Oh yea we also had an encounter with a love struck grouse. It came charging down the road at us in full mating display. Quite funny.

 I'm sleeping in tomorrow then maybe going out in the evening. I may have to hire C-Post guide service, I've heard good things about him.

Grouse look cool when they do that.  I saw it first time last year.  The one I seen was protecting her babys we had separated her from with the ford.  She wanted to fight.  You tube has some cool videos of it.  Here one.
