Rogers Taxidermy in Lakewood, WA
« on: April 26, 2012, 08:09:13 PM »
So heres the deal with him, I dropped off 2 birds in early Jan, was told the would be done in mid Feb. I just got one back a couple weeks ago and just called on the other one. According to him its been skinned for almost 3 weeks just sitting there. Is this good for a bird? My buddy took 3 birds down there that are 2 months late. Then my buddy and Roger agreed on a 100$ price tag if the birds werent complete by a specific date, and guess what. They werent complete but when my buddy went in to pay the 100$ Roger went back on his verbal and written agreement. This guy is very shady and lies all the time to make excusses as to why the birds arent done. BE VERY WEARY  of tking your animals in there. Im going tomorrow to pick up my half started bird body :bash: :bash: :bash:

Is there anyone who can mount a hooded merganser body that has been skinned already. and still make it look good on here? If so PM ME

If only some of these taxis would be truthful and realistic it would save them alot of bad mouthing ...it takes time to get animals done and of quality... unless he only has a handful of birds to do I do not think he is being truthful in what he tells his customer  :twocents:    and if it has been sitting around that long then it needs sheet canned ... It takes about 2 days to get one mounted and a few more days putting feathers in place while it is drying ....

No competent taxidermist would leave a bird sitting around out side of a freezer for 3 weeks and expect to mount it.  I am thinking it is in the freezer.

I agree with Michelle.  I'm sure he has it in his freezer.  If you do pick it up, make sure you keep it frozen.  Don't forget to get the feet back from him as well if he took them off the skin.  That is important to have them.  Also don't let it sit in the freezer too long already skinned out.  If it wasn't wet down properly it can get freezer burned really fast.  Good luck.....John

With all that has happened at that shop in the past, I'm suprised that he is still in business.

Michelle you are right, and you throw an important word in there to "Competent". I turned in a Buffle head drake at the same time as the merganser. Got the drake back, has no color to his head like a Buffle does, Not even close to the mount I wanted done, so I think competency is a big issue there. Ill post a pic of it on here.

unfortunatly, before i met john over at willow creek, i took two birds to the same taxidermy shop down there in tacoma. was a pleasant guy for the most part and i was told i would have them back in 3-4months. never having anything taxidermied before, i thought that was great. a year and a half later, i got a hodge podge mess that looked like garbage and is garbage. they reside in the garage. dont even want them in the house, especially next to the birds that john did. want a great looking mount, find john and do yourself a favor and never have stress again when it comes to bird mounts. you will forever be happy with what you get from there. stay away from rogers. shady shady place. plus theyve been busted for stealing mounts/horns/skulls from customers, was a whole thing a few years about it. do your research, i had to learn the hard way and it sucked. good luck to you and go get your birds asap and get to real taxidermist
