First pictures of the summer
« on: June 07, 2012, 09:15:12 PM »
Well in the last couple weeks I finally got some cameras out, seven of them altogether. When I get time I've got two more that I need to get out. After work I had time to check just one, the suspense has been killing me. I was hoping for some fawn pictures and maybe a bear, but no luck with that. However I did get a few deer pictures and at least one buck, so I wasn't too disappointed. After all it had only been out for 6 days. I am going to move it though as soon as possible, because out of the 200 pictures it had on it, 90% of them were from the wind blowing the ferns in the afternoon when the sun was shining and warming things up. The camera picked up that heat and the movement and took a lot of pictures of nothing. This is a Moultrie D40, the very first trail camera I ever got. So I will move it to a spot that's more shaded and hopefully with nothing that will blow around too much. Right now it's kind of on top of a little hill and gets a lot of wind. Anyway here's a few pictures....

Oh, and this is something I've never got a trail cam picture of:

And, back to the deer:

This doe looked pretty healthy, not sure what she was looking at:

Nice Bob, your blacktail antle pics are nearly as long as the whity I have been following. I do like the porc. pic. I too have not gotten one of those.

I checked another camera tonight, in a different location. Got some blacktail deer and one owl, barred owl I believe.

This camera is a Wildgame Innovations W6XAC, the ones that Amazon had a few months back for $50. I got two but wish I would have got a couple more. They sold out and never got anymore in.

And here's pics from a Tasco that's only about 100 yards from the other camera in my previous post, probably the same deer, no doubt. I'm just surprised I didn't get pictures of any fawns yet. At least not with these cameras. I've got a couple more cameras out that haven't been checked in 2 weeks now but I'll have to wait for the weekend, don't have time to do them after work, too far of a hike in.

Nice pics BC, I wish I would have picked up a few of those wild game cams myself. I ended up fixing the Tasco i thought was dead so im back to 5 cams which is good enough for now. Would be nice to use AA instead of C batts that's for sure!

That pic you have of the buck close up before the muzzle pic looks just like one I got in my thread. Sure is a fun time of year to be out scouting.

Thanks again for posting

Looks like youg ot some good set ups going.  That wildgame is doing a pretty good job, nice score on those.  HOw many cameras are you running total this year?
If you dont do it this year, you'll be one year older when you do!

Smith_22- to answer your question, I have 7 cameras out right now, would be 8 but I pulled one on Friday. It was having some issues at the time, not sure if it was battery related or what, but now it seems to be working so I'll probably get it back out next weekend. Not all of them are in productive locations, one I have on a salt block, just in case they find it, but so far I've got nothing there. It's actually been a few weeks since I've checked it so it's possible that it's getting some action now, but I doubt it. It's in a spot that I was baiting with apples last fall, and getting lots of bucks, but the deer just don't seem to be anywere around that area right now.

Anyway, I've got a few more pictures to add, they're from the camera that started this thread. I checked it today, it had been 10 days since I checked it last. I was considering pulling it, since last time I got a lot of pictures of nothing, most days, in the afternoon when the sun was shining and the wind blowing at the same time, it was enough to trigger the camera. So this time out of about 170 pictures taken, only 44 were of animals. But since I got what I'd been hoping for- a fawn- I left it up and hooked up an external battery so I don't have it running down disposable D batteries on pictures of nothing.

Nice capture of the fawn, they're elusive little critters!  Have a couple does that I know have dropped, but just getting the doe on camera and no fawn, hopefully soon they will start venturing out more with momma.  Keep the pics coming, 7 cameras must keep you very busy!

Well it had only been 6 days but I went and checked the camera where I got the fawn pictures. The buck hasn't been by for a while but got quite a few pictures of the doe and fawn again. No bears either which I was thinking was a good possibility at this spot.
