Most are to likely to hand out free intel for the new guys here but I had the archery tag last year.  If you are hunting weyerhauser land then you cant go wrong with the 4100 road.  It will be busy with lots of hunters in rifle season.  but that road branches into many other roads you can hunt on.  Also remember the 4250 on state land.  Good place to hunt also.

Bull or cow? I had that tag in 2008, cow tag last year and this year. My advice is to get some good glass, and practice shooting long range. You can get up high and spot elk in the reprod. They are every where. Obtain a map from the gas station in toutle. Any other questions just ask!

It's not a walk in the park.  Do your scouting.  Spend a bunch of time up there and you will probably fill your tag.  Spend time scouting the areas guys help you with and you have some good odds of possibly filling your tag.

Both the Toutle and Margaret are not the cake walks they used to be.  The trees are growing up and it's getting brushy.  Access can be the real hunt-killer, but Nov. should be ok.  Expect Weyco. to start charging any year now.  DNR land needs a Discover Pass.

Make as many trips there as possible pre-season to scout. Pray that it isn't 70 degrees and sunny all season. There are a lot of elk in there, but it is definitely no cake walk. I passed up 3 4-point bulls opening morning there last year and it took me 5 more days of hoofing and driving to come across another branched bull. Get away from the people since there will be a ton hunting the 4100 and 4200. Congratulations, it's a great hunt and will be a lot of fun. I saw elk all throughout the unit, both North and South ends.

For big bulls (5's or better) do LOTS of scouting. The Toutle is not what it once was. For small bulls show up 1 day early and get in some glassing.

I had a archery cow tag in there last year and was scouting during the rifle season.  We were driving the 4100 and spotted a spike in a clearcut.  He just sat there feeding for the longest time.  So I figured we'd stop any truck that came by to see if they had a bull tag.  After 45 minutes NO ONE who came by had a bull tag for that unit.  That was about as easy of a shot and recovery to load into your truck as it would've been.  It was really strange because earlier that road was like a highway.

We saw elk all over, you'll just have to work a little harder for the bulls.  Go in deep!
