Target shooting in the Darrington/Rockport area
« on: August 29, 2017, 02:51:03 PM »
I know that shooting spots in the Puget Sound are tough to come by, so I'll keep the specifics off the public forum, but is there anyone up around Rockport or Darrington that is familiar with places to target shoot that would be willing to answer a quick question via pm?

I've got a spot in mind (that I assume is not much of a secret), but I'd love to get some local intel before driving out there to make sure it's an ok place to shoot.

Honestly with how hot and dry it is I would recommend going to a range instead. High likelyhood of accidental fires.

That is definitely a reasonable point.  It is going to be later in September before I actually get out there, but will definitely keep the fire risk in mind.

My biggest goal this year is to work on practicing more from real-world shooting positions and angles.  100-200 yards is plenty for me.  My issue is that the only ranges I've been too around here limit you to shooting off a bench.  I recently picked up some land (without a safe place to shoot) up near Rockport, so I'll be up in that area on a regular basis now.

Got it. My range, out at machias, has benches and allows shooting from all field positions. It is members only but if you want to send a,few rounds downrange let me know

Thanks, I appreciate the offer--I may take you up on that.  I should probably just suck it up and join a range one of these days.

I do 99% of my shooting around darrington, I can show you a couple of places to go shoot at out there.
I shoot a lot with my grandson, he likes shooting my Ruger Mark 2 pistol.

When I go I take a 2'X4' fold up table,a couple of fold up chairs, coke on ice ad shoot for a few hours.

This weekend is pretty well locked up, next weekend would be better to go there.

What type of guns did you want to shoot? I shoot mostly handguns and 22lr rifle. Once I get the dies set up I'll be shooting centerfire rifle.
