Montana B Licenses
« on: January 02, 2019, 08:18:44 PM »
To buy a B License (antlerless) in Montana, do you need to also buy a General License?  I can't find anything in the regs that says you do, but I may be missing something obvious.

I'd like to just get a couple of the B Licenses without burning big dollars on a General License.

And yes, I am willing to admit that I'm not above driving 10 hours to fill a couple whitetail doe tags.  Quite frankly, I enjoy hunting does more than bucks sometimes.  Low stakes, lots of venison, and a good excuse to see some new country.

I've done a couple doe-focused trips to Wyoming in the past, but the doe tags seem to be getting tougher to draw every year there so I'd like to give Montana a shot this year.  There seem to be some good options to get multiple tags in areas with block management access.

You apply for elk and deer B tags by June 1st, many years there are left over tags in many areas for both deer and elk.

You need to have a hunting base license and the conservation license but not the combo/elk/deer tag.  You don't have to buy the two I mentioned before or during the B tag purchase but you do need them before you can hunt (at least I think this is true but haven't tried it before).

To piggyback onto Stein the base hunting license and conservation license costs $25

Thanks guys. There’s some good options to fill the freezer out there—especially outside the traditional seasons dates.
