Why not a 2nd or 3rd slot like the raffles.  Call and offer requiring an immediate purchase or on to next applicant.  Seems simple enough for elk.
Or make people pay up front!!! Bam no leftovers!!! Those that dont draw get a refund minus the app fee. Drives me nuts that there is a chance of not getting drawn yet every year there are leftovers because people dont realize the cost or dont buy it because they drew a special permit or whatever other reason. It takes opportunity away from those that do want it and want all the benefits that it gives during the special permit process. Rant over!!
Shut up and Hunt!

At least you get to purchase the unwanted tags.  Roughly 50% of spring bear permits dont even get used at all, and not like we can buy the spring bear permits from guys that dont want them.  Honestly you can look up the stats online.  About half of spring bear winners dont hunt on the permits a single day.

With over 2000 left over multiseason tags for deer available, shouldn't be a problem to purchase one.

Elk is a different story. Usually there are less than 100 tags available. This year, there are slightly more. Still will sell out in a matter of seconds.
Gathering is easy. Hunting is a challenge.

I agree with the pay up front! I think they should go back to the pay up front on the OIL Permits as well, but that is for a different thread..

They would have to call hundreds of people, actually make contact, confirm whether they want them etc etc.  Know how long that would take? It took them several days just to call the handful of raffle winners and ask them if they wanted the tags.

Then what after a percent of them fail to buy?

They should just call and ask randomly the hunters that have the highest points and offer them.I mean really they are the ones who have stood with this draw for years.  :twocents:

I do not understand the concept of them being filled in 5 seconds.  How can you even enter someone's name into a computer in under 5 seconds, let alone navigate menus, accept money, and all other stuff that goes into buying tags.  Is a tag consider filled as soon as they hit a button?  With that being said you wont have to compete with me, best of luck.

You won't be there trying if you don't have full intention of buying it.   :dunno:
