I found out how it happens the other day
Got back to my truck in the dark, unloaded rifle but keys were buried in my pack (anal about not loosing keys, Id be screwed no cell)
Set unloaded rifle on my tire in between the big lugs so it wont fall, offload my pack in the bed, root around for keys, start truck and make sure seat heater are on cause my lower back hurting from all the boot miles, move oack to the front cause its rsining, sit in the seat a bit resting and organizing sll my new waypoints.. ....
Drive off, hear a "thump" wth was that?
Oh carp!
I made it 50 feet, but first time I ever done that.

Only 50 feet, you were lucky! I did the same thing with my favorite shotgun while loading up a Livingston on a roof rack in the Winchester wasteway about 20 years ago at last light. Got all the way home (Kirkland at the time) and while unloading I was looking for my shotgun and could not find it... then I remembered! Got back in the truck and drove all the way back to Moses Lake and found it in the dark. Got back home at 2am.
It was only a cheap 870 but so many memories. Christmas present from my dad - first turkey - and many many more memories. I have guns worth a lot more money today but that old 870 with over 10,000 rounds through it is my favorite. Her name is Heather!
Hope the wayward rifle finds it's way home. If not, I hope it gets a loving new one!
