If they went up for sale it would become a job. Then it would not be fun.

It’s getting close, I’m waiting for the precision ground round bearing shaft to show up for the ram. I changed the design as the work was in process, a silicon bronze bushing will be inserted. This should increase the longevity and allow the ram to be operated dry. I was contemplating an air bushing for the ram but decided to pass.

Finally had a chance to work on it. That work thing has been getting in the way of fun. Also, had a delay in the supply chain. The shaft came in just a week ago. When I called the company asking on the delay I received the current all to common covid excuse.

After first partial assembly I had to do an engineering change. The original arms which were just a radius didn’t allow the press to sit on the table enough. The new S design moved the press an 1.5” further onto the bench.

Since the last post I managed to make the brass bushing, shafts (bearings) and alignment pin. Shaft work and a handle are up next. Unfortunately work has picked up so I’m not sure when I’ll get to work on it again.

It’s moving at a snails pace. When I get a couple of free hours it gets worked on. Since the last post I’ve added the handle which has bearings in it, why not at his point. I wasn’t liking the stack height of the shaft, case holder and dies which lead to the addition of some 1/4” shim plates at the top.

I was sent the wrong shaft. The one I order was supposed to be nitrided and soft in the middle. It would have allowed for easier machining for the case holder. But oh no, I got the shaft, they sent me a through hardened shaft which is 62-63 Rockwell. In terms of hardness? Well, you can’t even touch it with a high speed steel drill bits.

I’m going back to the drawing board to figure out a different style/custom case holder.

It’s getting close. A few more items: finishing the shaft and putting a hole in it for decapping, a case holder, and base plate, I hope?

The handle looks like it’s going to be in the way, which will be the last item to be addressed.
