Congrats glad you found your bull
If you don’t mind, please share the circumstances. Where was the hit, and how far did he travel? Did he end up in the general direction you thought or somewhere completely different?

This would be a great addition to this story. We could all learn from how this bull traveled after being hit.

Congrats to the hunter.

A back story would be interesting and probably educational for alot of us.  Great outcome!

Very sad but awesome at the same time.
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

Wow! What a bull. I wish you could have retrieved the meat, but good on you for keeping after it.

Happy ending. Thanks for sharing the pics. Nothing more beautiful than a typical, symmetrical  7x7

That’s great, you can imagine how you just know you would never see that animal again and then you’re reconnected. So cool.

We all feel sick when the animals don't cooperate, we shoot them and they fall over dead in their tracks.  Isn't that how it is supposed to work?  I hate when they cheat and run off and hide so well never to be found.  Good on you for following through and congrats on an awesome bull.

This is awesome! Atta Boy for the fella that found it and wanted to find the Hunter.

And congrats to the hunter. The overall outcome wasn't what you had in mind but you got closure knowing the bull died and have memories to look at of the hunt.

Hello my name is Brent. I shot a very very nice bull on Monday and have been looking since then. It was in the 328 area it was a good shot just couldn’t find him my arrow should still be in him minus the last 6-8 inches. I have the part that got broke off to prove it. Please please call me I’ve been sick over this. My number is +15094606718

Good on you, Brent.  This is the honorable thing to do.

I want to start by thanking this forum and Mike the guy that found my bull and was kind enough to post it. Maybe for curiosity and possibly educational reasons I can give you a bit of the search story.  I’ll start by saying it was a double lung shot, an hour after I shot him we started on blood. We found 2 different 2x1 piles of blood with tons of bubbles in it. Figured we would find him shortly after, but nope .54 miles down the drainage in the bottom he decided to work uphill a bit odd but not alarming. At that point we,  me and my 3 buddies could obviously see he had done a 360 not wanting to enter a little meadow and started back straight down to the bottom, but shortly after that is where we completely lost blood. We then started a zig zag pattern looking for blood or my bull, it was about 3-4 hours later one of my friends said he found a drop of blood. It was 200 yds uphill from where we lost blood. That’s against everything I’ve ever been taught or seen when an animal is mortally wounded. We then spent the next day and a half combing that hillside with no luck. Finally this bull was 490 yards uphill from last know blood drop. In one of my tracks on onX I was 56 yards from him the day I shot him,  if I would’ve continued west instead of veering south I would’ve walked right into him and would’ve been able to recover the meat too. Again thanks to Mike he brought me some peace again. I was sick over this.

This is the hunt WA community at work. Amazing collaboration. I cannot imagine the heartbreak and stress involved for the hunter. Elk are tough animals and loosing one really makes a person think about the what ifs. 20 years ago I lost my first elk using a muzzleloader and round ball. It forever changed how I hunted and prepared for the various situations encountered. Not that the animals life is any different but to loose a once in a lifetime type animal just adds to the burn. Excellent work and thank you to those involved for sharing a difficult topic.

Thanks for posting this. Only way to find that elk would be a dog or just plain luck. Lots of that area is impossible to track by hoofprints alone. Elk hunting brings us the highest of highs and then can also bring the lowest of lows, glad you got some closure on him
