Not yet. But I was hoping to do a little more scouting this weekend and I was just wondering. Maybe we will get lucky and it will stay open!

I was surprised at how damp it was up there. It rained a little off and on while I was there too... fingers crossed.

It's closed to all motorized access, according to the message dated August 1st.

The public land "corridors" as they call them, are open, so you can drive into the big block of state land (in the Toutle unit).

Typical Weyco operating procedures.  Closing their gates is one way to keep their logging operations safe from idiots during the work week.. because no matter how many signs they put up about active logging going on... some people HAVE to get to that spot on the other side of the operation...   It also keeps their equipment from being shot up...   

Oh, and they really do not want their timber going up in flames either...

I wish I could catch one of those SOB shooting up equipment, my dad was a logger and it was unbelieveable how much damage they would do, and cost the pour jipo logger a ton.
I think I could shoot their rig up a little with out feeling to bad about it.
That and the gARBAGE oh my  When we were up Toutle area there were certain roads that had just a ton of beer cans and garbage, we picked up some but could of spent a whole day there. Those are some other people I'd like to catch.

It's been a few years since they opened up the woods for archery and that was the worse hunting year I've ever had I will never hunt another year up there when it's open for drive in

Show me 1 instance where this has happened by other than nature ot a work crew.

As much as I dont like it.I understand why they lock the gates.  But this isnt a legit reason.

Its the fricken methheads and vandalism more than anything
I have talked to my share of loggers up there what they told me was after the second idiot put sand in the second high dollar processors hydraulics  they slammed the gates shut everywhere they can.
Also fools would haul old crappy trailers up there and leave them all season while they cooked meth in them.

Check out the Featherville-Pine Fire in Idaho (Trinity Ridge Fire) that is going on right now. It's burned over 100,000 acres already and it was caused by a human on a ATV.  Plenty of fires caused by people but you only asked for one.

I'm with you John. Actually I'd prefer it to be closed to motorized vehicles. INCLUDING quads... I heard one in there last weekend. Ripping around in the Margaret, talk about frustrating

Don't forget Weyco. sold off a huge chunk of the Margaret in the last few years.  Could be you were hearing the new owners exploring their exclusive playground--with exclusive access to the Mt. Margaret backcountry--which is still owned by all of us.  (You just can't get there.)

But there is hope.  The USFS is trying to get some of it back--at least the High Lakes part.
