Permission to Hunt - Southeastern WA
« on: August 22, 2012, 12:53:09 PM »
Just wondering if there are any land owners on this site that would be willing to give me and my two hunting buddies permission to hunt your property this fall when we make the trek to Southeastern, WA for our annual hunting trip?

We've done our scouting for public land access and know where we can and most likely will go if we can't find permission from private land owners, but we're also looking for someone to help us find success.

A little background about our group:

I'm a Christian and have been a pastor for 14 years and now serve as a missionary for a non-profit ministry called Children of the Nations, www.cotni.org, that rescues orphans in Africa and the Caribbean. I love to hunt and am waiting to finally get my first buck in WA state.

My hunting buddies are also Christians.

One is in the military who recently returned from serving in Afghanistan for 9 months with NATO. He missed all last year's hunting season. He has never shot a deer - as I was able to introduce him to hunting just 3 years ago. I really want him to have success this year.

The other works in Seattle for an insurance provider. His wife works with me at COTN.

Honestly, we're expecting that we will end up hunting public access lands that we've hunted in the past, but if a land owner in the Pomeroy, Tucannon, Dayton, or other nearby region would consider giving us permission - we would really appreciate your kindness.

Send me a PM if interested.

Thanks for listening.

Very well written ....  I do all my hunting in that area on private property, although most of the owners are family or family friends.  I will do some asking around to see what I can do for you guys.  Hopefully, someone gets back to you.

Good luck!!!

A lot of landowners down there post their contact info on the signs of they are willing to give permission.  Might be a good place to start.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Part of the reason why we travel to your side of the state is because we want a reason to get away from our responsibilities and live "wild at heart".  If we stayed in Western, WA we'd be more likely to stay at our homes, get distracted by emails and "to do lists" at home. Whereas, when we visit Eastern, WA we simply relax, enjoy the beauty of that region, and admire the opportunity to hunt Mulies and Whitetails.

I've got no problem hunting Blackies over here... but growing up in Maine and hunting Whitetails with my father... yeah, I'd rather drive 7 hours to Eastern, WA for a week of just remembering those days.

:)

We scouted out there 2 years ago and last year. This year has been too tough for us to get out as my job has changed in the organization I'm in, so I'm required to be available a lot more these days. If I had someone offer me some place to check out, I'd probably take a weekend off to go.

Yes, hunting Mod Firearm.

I didn't mean stay on your side of the state, just that lots of guys post their numbers so it's easy to get into
Contact with people.  Also the windmills have changed the way to get permission to hunt that land, so google the last resort, its a koa camp in the tucannon and you will be told how to get permission to hunt that land.    Good luck.  Honestly if you wanna be experience the wild, go into the national forest and hunt, probably won't see as much, but it's beautiful.

I would check out the windmill option honestly unless you want to drive over a couple weekends after the harvest, and to some calling.  There are some great folks over their, but they get allot of people from the westside that don't respect their private property allong with the Seattle politics westies aren't all that popular.  You may think about hunting the public land this year write down some numbers, and offer to do some stuff around their property in exchange for access.  These are small communities once you get to know a few folks you would be suprised how many doors open up, just keep in mind they have countless people bothering them once season starts so that is not a good time to be knocking on doors.

Yeah, I already know about the windmill options. Been doing that for the last 2 years and the people at the Last Resort are great. They've really done a great job giving hunters more options.

But I'm definitely looking for more options than that. Just ready for some success.

Welcome to Washington, my fellow Mainer. I grew up in Millinocket, Maine - near Baxter State Park.  How long have you been out here? What brought you to the Pacific Northwest?

Great options. I guess the question is: what does a Westie have to offer someone that owns land over there and do people over there trust us. Believe me, I ain't no liberal from Seattle... Conservative Republican through and through.  But I just don't know what I could offer to someone that would really help them out. Suggestions?

Work on their property, or just spend lots of time up there.  We got permission just being there and chatting with landowners when we ran across them.  Start up a conversation and see where I goes.
