The boy and I went camping....
« on: August 25, 2008, 02:52:35 PM »
All he wanted to do was ride his motorcycle, and all I wanted to do was look for animals.
Guess what we did more of?
He did ride it for the first time without the training wheels, but after dumping it and flooding it with oil, he suggested I put them back on. ;)
Anyway, LOVE the new D3 with 200-400mm but I'm looking forward to getting the 14-24mm.

Here is just a couple.

Cole was riding shotgun and yelled "There's an Elk Dad!" Good spot boy.  8)
One thing I did learn was, with this lens you really need to pay attention to your focus point, I thought I could just hit her main body and be good, Nope, need to hit what you want in focus. even at this distance the difference between her belly and head was enough to show the DOF.

I didn't use a Macro as I don't have one yet, All the flowers here were done with the 200-400mm handheld.

Here's a 100% full crop of the flower from above for comparison.

I said, Sorry Cole, you can't pick flowers for Mom in a National Park :(

Thanks for looking!

Larger sizes can be seen here.

Elkman, can you tell me what the settings were on the waterfall pics? ie the shutter speed.

Beautiful pictures.  This would be another good contest.  "Guess the settings!"

I am going to guess 1/64. Net!

Elkman, can you tell me what the settings were on the waterfall pics? ie the shutter speed.

Straight on water fall was 1/8 @f8 ISO 200, side water fall was 1.3sec @f8 ISO 200, then tweaked in PS3.
I bracketed from anywhere from .5 sec. to 2.5 sec. all at f8. Plus I was using a circular polarizer on my 24mm, I don't have a ND for that lens yet.
Shot around 30 images and would have played more, but the boy was getting impatient and wanted to get in the cave.
