Having a snatch block is a given. That's just an extension of the 'tool/winch' to make every pull that much easier.

I saw a guy stuck that had burned up a new harbor freight winch on the front of his Cherokee. One pull and it was done. I drove off to give him time to think. I came back about 10min later and pulled him out with the 8274. I saw him about 3 weeks later with a Warn 9000 on the front of his rig.  :chuckle:

Oh I will have a snatch block for sure!

I am looking in the under 500.00 range. Since my cradle and hitch mount will be about 100.00.

If you guys have a great winch in that range feel free to post it. I won't run the winch off the main battery the Sammy's have a 30 amp fuse that ties in that will pop when you get a winch stuck on it and to much draw. I will run it off another battery rather then the small one that runs the rig.

a couple weeks agio i mounted a warn 16.5 ti on a truck, that thing was pretty cool, i think it should be able to pull your samuri out! and hey if i remember right it was just under $2000 for the winch!  :chuckle: i mean just throwing it out there ha. i really cant help much with your options, just wanted to follow the thread, beacuse a winch is definetly on my list of things to get for my truck, right after a new engine and building bumpers!

LOL. Few long day and nights broke on trail? Its like a highway since they logged. But alder loop and sunrise are getting funner

When were you up there last  :dunno:

Late spring I was up there on my bike and there was a track hoe making the trail nasty again. The guys were moving boulders in to the traila nd digging new rabbit holes in the bottom trail section  :bash: :bash: :bash:

Up there alot. my club helps out with the trail maintenance so some of us were probably out there with the mini and ocks in the rigs. Trying to restore busy to its glory. The rocks were probably for rainier vista but a rock crawl in there. and a log jam crawl. the mini is to fill holes or block of closed portion of trail. If they were making holes bigger thats club wtf and should not be doing that. all trails have new signs for recomended tire size and armor.

They were on the Busy, down at the bottom. Where the rabbit holes and creek crossing is.

You can see (at the time we were there) where they moved big boulders on to the trail, dig holes were there was not before, and thet track hoe even lost a track and they had to fix it right on the trail. They had the trail blocked and we went around it with our bikes.

Take a look at Quadratec.com it's a big jeep warehouse that now has there own line of winches. They are getting great reviews over on jeepforum.com  They also have all the other wiches you could think of. P.S if you find a winch at Quadratec you want I could shoot the Qtec rep a P.M over at Jeepforum and get you a price break. Everything i've ordered through him he's gave me a deal, either price or free shipping

M8274  . My opinion on winches is to get the biggest you can afford. A winch rated at 1 1/2 times the weight of your rig is not enough especially on a full pull. Unless you are on pavement. Besides if a smaller winch will pull you out then you really aren't that stuck. Should be able to drive out of it. I also vote for cable winch line. Personal preference there. The myth that synthetic line doesn't store energy is false. I have personally seen it twice. One time it did hit one of the guys in our club. Hurt him pretty good. Although not as dangerous as when a cable breaks it still can make for a bad day. If you are worried about pulling too many amps just do a dual battery set up. Its not expensive to do and easy to set up. The extra battery will be your biggest expense. You won't need to get a larger Amp alternator unless you are constantly winching. A dual set up will have enough stored energy for several pulls with the engine running. After pulling your alternator will charge up the batteries just fine. That being said it doesn't hurt to get a larger amp alternator if you wanted one.   :twocents:

Winchs are a funny thing. You almost never use them but when you do its a life saver or day saver.
I have always had Warn and now will never even think of going to anything else. I was in a worse case scnero were I was way back in the middle of no where, miles and hours away from anything. I was in my Toyota with a Warn 6000# and had 2 jeeps with 8274s. To make a long storie short, I broke the input shaft between my 2 transfer cases which left me with no drive at all on a super steep hill. we were in none stop steep hill climbs country. Needless to say just towing my rig out was not an option (we tried) we ended up using the winches, we had to alternate the 8274s cause they would take the battries down so far the jeeps would die, I turned my idle up and ran my 6000# Warn the whole time and everytime we were winching (mine takes way less Amps). This trip ended up with 12 hours of winching and not one of the 3 winchs ever even had a hicup. We had some very hard pulls, most of the time things went slow but it never stopped except or a rerig. There was a big storie wrote about it at one time and I cant find it or I'd post it. There was a few times that had any of the winchs quit I would have been screwed. I have tested Warns in almost every extreme condition. All that said A winch is not a place to skimp out on. I am willing to save for a couple more months to get a Warn. Also look around on craigslist, I have found tons for less the $500 even the 8274 I have now.
