Wyoming bound in the am...
« on: October 08, 2012, 02:37:03 PM »
Heading off once again this year for the annual Antelope quest with friends from West Virginia.  Can't wait, stuff is all packed, freezer in the truck already.  Between three of us will have hopefully be grinding 15 animals before we return home to WA....

Yeah 4th year in a row!    I like the meat and when taken care with the approach of salmon, hide off, get it off the bone and on ice it is freaking yummy!...  15 seems like a lot but it isn't at all..  3 of us, 1 buck each and the 4 does... 2- 100 quart coolers and deep freezer in the back of the truck, grinder for the hotel room...  Come home with all vacuumed sealed and ground meat in 2lbs bags all ready frozen...

Go get um  I know antelope country is typically not wolf country, but do you think  that you may post a dead wolf when you get back  :dunno:

What unit are you going to? I just got back from unit 113 last saturday from a 4 day trip, not as easy as people say! NOT very much public land. Pack warm, we got snow and 40 mph wind. It was cold to say the least, good luck

Were in area 30 on private land with some bordering public that is not accessible via road.  Plus some good locations in the hills where hopefully the snow the past couple days has them funneling through....  No guarantee that is for sure, but it is so much fun of a hunt I can't wait to leave in the am...

Ya know, the quicker you go to bed, the sooner you wake up and leave...lol.  Easier said than done.  On trips like that I usually stay up all night or leave a lot sooner than planned.  :chuckle:  Again.........good luck!

Just got back from a 15.5 hr drive straight from Casper, too tired to sleep...hmmmm, that doesn't sound right....  1,087 miles one way....  Total bag is 10 animals, 4 for me, 4 for my hillbilly buddy that lives here and two for my hillbilly buddy that still lives in WV....  No big bucks at all, three little bucks is what we ended up with on final day (Sat), last chance bucks for sure.... plus 7 does.....    We saw one that maybe went 14" on the property we were on and none, absolutely none on public property..  Animal herd was almost nonexistent this year, ranch manager and land owner said drought hit them hard this year.  Fewest animals on the property (28,000 acres) in the past four years and we got there on opening day this time...  Took a day and went to an area where I have been trying to get drawn for a few years, holy crap some monsters running everywhere...      All but the last day bucks are boned, ground and stuffed into burger packs and partially frozen...  Small chest freezer is just the ticket for sure.....  Let these last guys bleed out a bit more in the next or so before finishing them off...  Not much in regards of pictures, but some great time were had with a couple great guys....     Done Antelope hunting - unless I get drawn for the new area..... :chuckle: :chuckle:

Saw two Badgers...  Lots of Elk in the high country a couple days before the opener, one total bruiser right by the dirt road in Antelope country and probably close to 300-400 on fields en route both ways in Montana....  Another fun trip

good to hear you got your lopes. I missed the trip this year; since I'm working in Barrow, AK.   :cryriver:
My brother & friends still went and said the same thing. Fewer animals for sure.

I was only able to spend two half-days there this year. I filled four doe/fawn licenses in that time. I believe there were slightly fewer animals where I hunted, but not that many less.

Maybe it was just area 30/32????  Just relating what I saw from past four years of going to the same area, what they told us, and of course what the Wyoming Fish and Game officer stated too.  Ranch Manager and Owner of the Bixby Ranch know whats going on alot better than any of us that visit for a few days here and there.  Although, Area 106, 61 and 64 had ogles of Antelope for sure...
