Whitetail rut question
« on: November 03, 2012, 08:52:51 PM »
I was out this morning looking for a whitetail buck.  I saw several nice mule deer bucks deep in the rut.  Where ever there were mulie does... there were bucks following with their nose close behind.  I saw a few whitetail doe but no bucks following.  Is whitetail rut later?

Should be ramping up in a week and a half or so.

The peak is Nov 21-24. Thus the reason why it is closed during this time. Up till two years ago, it opened 2 days after rifle closed. Usually 21st. Well the fine game department has taken the best times of the rut for deer and elk from us. It is closed a week between seasons this year. Elk is closed in most areas almost two weeks between end of bow and muzzleloader.  :mgun:
The mulies are just thinking about it. Seen some acting like they wanted to do alittle sparring. Still in buck groups.
