Great bull man! Bitchin'.          Was under the impression that as long as it wasn't a gov'mnt maintained road, that it was legal to shoot from.  Maybe I'm wrong.

Umm, not a road hunter and have never shot anything from the road, but I am with this guy ^, and then I read the rules.

PG. 76 #6; Prohibited hunting methods, discharging a firearm from, across, or along the maintained portion of any public highway, regardless of surface, is prohibited, except for hunters with disabilities.... "Public Highway: Any road, regardless of surface, maintained by public funds." (PG 16, Definitions)

So, I am guessing that state and federal timberlands falls into this category? So, like most all blacktailed deer shot from a landing were illegal? Hancock is not public, one can shoot away there, I guess.

What if the road is grown up and not graded or brushed any longer? Still illegal?

I have heard of a ton of deer and elk shot from or in the road, it is really illegal? I know a guy who killed a big blacktail in the road with a bow. That must be illegal, as well.

So, if a guy walks behind a Forest Service gate 5 miles and gets to the very end of the road and is standing on the the last landing which is gravel and shoots a deer up in the clearcut, it is illegal?

Learn something everyday, I guess I will stick to hunting the timber.

It really is threads that take off like this with people nit-picking the guys photo to death that keep people from posting on this site! It is none of YOUR business where he was standing when he shot. Most people on here are law abiding citizens who take the appropriate precautions to be legal. As far as where the tag is placed. It was on the horns in the picture, doesn't mean it was there when they packed the animal out. I don't see a quartered out animal there either? If they got it out whole, then the tag on the horns is fine folks, firmly attached to the largest portion of meat known as the entire animal. STOP BITCHIN!  :bash:

Great animal bud. Its a beautiful bull and a clean shot/quick death. Can't ask for anymore.

I hope this isn't meant towards me. I am on OP's side. I just want to disagree with not being able to shoot one in or from a logging road (not saying he did, I don't care). Maybe my post was taken wrong or not articulated well, but, I cannot consider a logging road a "Public Highway", sorry.

If I were driving in or out and seen an animal in the road it would not stop me from loading up and popping it.
