I think that is part of the problem with this category system they've come-up with.  It is kind of hard to have decent permit choices for all the categories they've added.
:yeah:

There is no need for a separate +65 category. Nor is there a reason for a disabled hunter category, or a youth category. All these permits should be included in the antlerless category. So if you write to the WDFW, don't ask for permits to be added to the 65 category. Ask that they elminate all unnecessary categories.

Bobcat, then you would have only one chance.
If you buy two tickets to a lottery, you have two chances.
So if you apply for anterless and 65+ you get two chances.Add disabled and you get 3 chances.
More than once, have I drawn a quality, and an anterless in a single year.
There is nothing keeping you from drawing a permit from all of the different categories in a single year.

Clearly, bobcat is over 16 yrs old, doesn't have any youngsters or seniors that he would like to see have an extra opportunity, and is not, and apparently doesn't ever figure he or anyone he cares about ever being disabled....very sad and disheartening statement to hear from another hunter.

Let's keep shooting each other in the back every chance we get when we don't personally agree with a method, season, style or whatever, and then sugguest to take more hunting opportunity away... saves the anti's money, time and effort!

Blacktail Sniper,

Apparently you misunderstood my post. I didn't say we don't need the youth, disabled hunter, and +65 hunts. I said they don't need to be in their own separate category.

My bad bobcat, I apologize.  In reading your post, that is what it sounded like, sorry for the confusion.

Thank you for clarifying, I appreciate that.

I say do away with all the catergeoy garbage... one elk app and one deer app... 1 or 2 choices each. All of these catergories actually decreased the odds of drawing anything...  :bash:

I don't believe there is any chance at all of seeing a change until the proposed 2015-2017 seasons are drafted.

The only changes will be essentially "emergency" changes where maybe a population took a significant hit due to over hunting, diesase, weather, etc. But as Bob said, any significant changes won't be until the 2015-17 seasons are proposed.

The "changes" the original poster posted are already state law.

The bottom line is if you care about having a permit for EM elk, then write.

PREDITORPRO,
your doing better than i am! i have never been drawn for anything in the last 10 years and the only thing i have been drawn for was a youth any buck hunt when i was like 14
Are you only putting in for the 1000 to 1 shots at a permit? Seriously, you have to take a hard look at what you are applying for. There are the "Waa Hoo look at what I was drawn for" permits and the others. Many of the others are great draws. My advice is to put in for one of the Waahoo hunts in one category and something more sensible in the other categories. About every 2 to 3 years I draw 2 or more permits using this strategy. I drew three permits this year (one was for a turkey). One was a quality hunt and another was for cow elk.
I do not have lots of points, usually 3 or 4. A few years ago, I drew one of the waa hoo permits in Toutle Bull with 5 points.
Also, either put in for points or for a draw in every category you are qualified for. Sometimes you have to put into for points option, but every once in a while there is a new permit added that is great.

i have been buying licenses and tags for at least 58 years.  there should be some kind of reward for all the buying like some giving.  not asking for a lot but i would like to be able to apply for a 65+ ml permits in e. wash.  last year there were none.  mike w

hoof, what is a wahoo permit?  i might add if by chance they do not have a master program this coming year perhaps they could channel a lot of the permits to the 65+ group.  i feel we as responsible as the masters if not more.  flame on.    mike w

Ok, I will flame.

All you old guys had your chance, plus you are retired and have all season to score, you need no benefit. I would rather any "surplus" benefit go to youth hunters, they are our future and only chance we all have of securing the future of hunting.

i like the way it is now.  there are a lot more chances to draw something.  it brings more money into where ever the permit money goes.  and yes some of the master hunts should go to youth.  i know some youth who have drawn some tags that i have not drawn.  mike w
