To be real, I'm getting fairly sick of skinning and fleshing ANY beaver. 

very nice how big are those traps they look huge?

I believe they are 12x18x40. Great trap made by Jim Comstock.

Comstock promotes the trap as a live cage. Have you caught very many on land or in shallow water. It looks like you must have, the trap looks like it got a little round start to it.

I would think as long as it is set upside down, or on its side, it should last quite a while and serve you well.Never seen One in person up close.

I always set it submerged so I don't have to check it as often. And upside down.

No, I got too busy in other areas. I should be able to hit it in the fall.

 Saturday we were able to have Bearhunter and his boys along with us and were blessed with this small beaver. Tonight we pulled our final trap out for the year and had another otter. That's it for us for the year. We were very blessed and had a fun year.

           Me and my son are looking into getting our trapping licence but have no experience in this field. We have lots of Muskrats, Beavers and some Minks moving through the creek on my property. We were wondering what kind of traps and bait you use for the different types of critters, Also the placement of the trap. You brought up trapping at the Baseball game in Ferndale  the other night and i believe it would be good for my boys and myself to learn another skill to pass down to the younger generations. After you turned me on to Hunting Washington and looking at your profile i am convinced you can teach me and my boys a thing or two about trapping. Any advice you can give us?

 I'll certainly tell you what has been taught to me by so many other great trappers. It will put a good work ethic into your son without him knowing what's going on! We'll talk at the games or practice. Good to see you signed up.

I am fortunate to be from a great outdoor state like Missouri. As I write this i am sitting at my brothers house enjoying the view of some whitetail in the back yard. It will be sad to fly back tonight. Here in Missouri the Missouri Department of Conservation actually hosts trapping clinics. This is one of many programs they have here to endorse outdoor activities. The program is specifically designed for youth and beginning adults. I am sure that we (Washington residents) would never convince WDFW to endorse, sponsor or even assist in such a clinic. I have read many of the posts on the trapping forum and it is refreshing to see new people and kids getting involved in trapping.

Is it time for us as trappers to put on our own clinic? I know that it would be worth my time to help in facilitating such a program.
