Peola Unit 178
« on: January 19, 2013, 02:01:12 AM »
Doing a little research. Used the search function and read a few topics.
Anybody ever draw a Peola Quality Elk tag?
Is there any public land to worth hunting?, or do you need permission to try and fill a quality elk tag?
Is it steep and deep? or am I looking at more of a blues foothills hunt?

Any input would be appreciated...

1. Almost no public land, so yes you would need permission.

2. No, It's not steep. It's almost all ag land. What's not planted for ag is mostly open prairie, but still private.

Your friend Mr. Allen owns some of this also.    Very few of the cow tag holders fill their tags.  The elk seem to disappear during the season.

No Kidding here, fact  50 cow tags issued.  Very few tagged.  Holds true for the history of the hunt.

I honestly wouldn't apply for it unless you have already secured access that is a small community with a lot of great people, but many of them grow weary of the onslaught of new friends they get every year before season opens up.

Apparently, since he wasn't getting much out of the site, he thought he'd try to get more out of it :dunno:

Its a hard unit to get access to hunt. the land owners are good people. But they don't give access to everyone. It the elk are on a property that don't have pressure and you cant get permission your sunk for the season

My Self and 400out have had an any bull tag.  Access is a bitch and $$$  I would say if your not a local or very close to one, it is throwing your points away.  Some nice Bulls but poaching and thrill killings happen every year it seems.  I think I got very lucky.
