my new jet sled looking for river to take it out on

just picked up a old smoker craft sled 14ft and put a 50hp jet tiller on it. i live close to the boat lunch under hy 18 on the green river does anyone know can you run a motor in that river i see a few drit boats from time to time. just looking to test it out on a river if any one know a good one let me know thanks

Do yourself a favor, and don't be one of those "dudes" that runs his sled on the upper green....  You'll make more friends...

Better place to launch your boat would be the lower snoqualmie, or in the Duwamish.

No motors allowed on the green.  I would take it out on a lake and get used to it.

Pretty sure a friend of mine used to run his up that part of the green. Always talked about how mad people got.

The only place that you could even possibly launch would be under the bridge accross from Soo's Creek. Below the car body hole is an unpassable log jam. And you could if you were good on running on wet rocks maybe get up to the Flaming Queser. Of course it would all be illegal.

Might be best to learn on a flat lake how the boat handles before running skinny water.  Legal or not, not real smart to run a boat your not used to on a river with turns, bends, rapids, dead heads, sweepers and shallow gravel areas without knowledge of how it handles to begin with...  Running rivers, you ought to know exactly what the kayakers know except in reverse.... When running up....  Drive straight lines to the bends versus following the river curves...  Water flows in the most direct path, you got to be able to read that in skinny water....  If you haven't driven a jet, some slide, some pull and some just do not have enough hp to plane out.  Learn how to run skinny water, as your boat will handle way differently in super shallow than deeper water- nothing to displace and it will rise or scrape bottom, you got to know which way your boat goes....  Nothing is fun when suddenly forward movements stops on a dime.......  So learn that stuff before running any moving water.

More importantly is to load your boat people and gear evenly, it has to sit flat to run flat.  If it drops in the back with that short of a boat, you might as well get a prop unless you can even it out, cause the jet will not enhance the boat's shallow water performance, it will just suck rocks from the bottom banging along the way, limiting it's performance even more....  Too much weight in back it will never plan, too much in front it will create cavitation..  Level load is what your after...

Not a good idea to hit a river until you can predict exactly how your boat will react when under hard turns and throttle, practice on a lake a few times and then go on the river you want to run with someone else first to learn how to read the water.

When you think you're ready hit the Puyallup, it's slow enough to start you out reading water down low, then work your way up river.

thanks for the info i have had it on the lake a few times. I am thinking of going down to the cowlitz and see if i can get some winter steelhead. i just wanted to run it in a river before i went all the way down there. it runs good in the lake thow.

Meant if the bottom drops hard core and you have to have a person ride on the bow to start the plane, no matter what you do the pump is going to be ineffective...   So might as well get a prop...    But as longs as it planes right away, you should be fine for sure..  I do miss running skinny water when I had my 1860 boat with 90 Honda jet...  Run as shallow as the water would trickle...  Have fun and enjoy the rivers for sure...
