Rechambering a .270Win

I want to re-chamber my Winchester Model 70 Feather in .270Win to .270wsm and was wondering what a gun smith would charge to do it and exactly what it woul take. Its a gun that my grandpa passed down to me and has a lot of memorys but I want a flatter shooting gun. Thanks for any helpful comments!

Will need to pull barrel, set the barrel back. A ream job and the boltface will need to be opened. Or go with a new, already chambered barrel and installation. This is just a nutshell. Might as well square everything up and instal a new lug with either way.

if I bought an already chambered barrel I'd only need to have it installed??

What your looking to do ain't going to be cheep either. I agree keep grandpas gun and save some coin and but a 270 wsm.

you could buy a tikka for cheaper than it would be to alter the gun.

I looked on a few gun smith websites and it looks like itd only cost between 150 and 250....

remember the .270 is long action and 270wsm is short action I would think that can't be cheap to change over, I could be wrong?

that and the .270 and 270 wsm are pretty equal not really enough to justify the cost I would think. I would check ballistics on it.

your bullet is 225fps faster at the barrel with the 270wsm but i think you can buy a 270wsm for cheaper than you can convert. or get a 300wsm they are nice rifles.
