Why won't taxidermists taxi pets?
« on: April 17, 2013, 10:53:45 AM »
Just wondering.  I heard that most taxidermists have a no pets policy.

ive only asked one taxi about this, so this probably not the overall concensus, but he said that with pets people know practically where every hair was and every scar, mole and etc was on the animal this makes the margin of error so small it because highly labor intensive he also said that people know the animals personality so well and expect that reflected in the animals face it becomes extremely difficult to match that with available tools and time and ends up becoming not financially worth it to keep calling the owner/customer in to make sure everything is perfect

Some of the same reasons they don't do Grandmas.

Pet stuffing was discussed a while back where Michelle, Charlie, Kudu and possibly a few other taxi's explained why they shy away.

I'm with ya Charlie.  We get at least 2-3 calls a month for that.  I kind of feel sorry for the customer who wants a living memory of their pet, but not a lot of success from their calls.  After I explain everything to them, they seem to understand a little better, but it's not fun for me or the customer.

I knew a California taxi that was approached by Roy Rogers.  Rogers wanted to live for all history mounted in the saddle a top his horse Trigger.  Rogers was trying to get an exemption to the law for historical purposes.  This guy said he had nightmares every night for over a month after discussing it.

I wouldn't mount Roy Rogers, I wouldn't mount my kids and thus I would never mount my pets.  That's creepy on top of a little creepy with a huge side of dang creepy washed down with a tall glass of freakin' creepy!
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

I really feel sorry for people who can not let go. Or people are so lonely they are willing to do such a thing to a loved one.  We all deal with death in our own way so I don't want to make fun of the way some cope.  But dang if that doesn't just put a chill in my spine and a creepy pill down my throat.

I imagine if your pet didn't look perfect, owners would also try to sue the taxidermist.  We have all seen bad taxi jobs.

Could you imagine if you brought in your dog and it came out looking like this.  You would have nightmare for life of your animal.  :yike:

I am not sure if you have ever mounted a animal that you have harvested and never known.. 'But I have and don't understand how you can put that critter on your wall and not another that you have known and named. my two cents. I am taking pics and mesuresmentns of mine so when it is time I will carve them and they will be in my home forever!

CREEPY!  Years ago my cousin and I visited a brother of a family friend, and seeing a black and white hide draped over the back of the couch, we asked his sister what it was.  She explained that he loved his old dog so much that when it died, he skinned it and had the hide tanned.  My cousin and I looked at the skin, and at each other and shuddered.  We both were hunters, and dead animals were no big thing to us, but that really creeped us out.... :yike:
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

I forget the name of it but there was a show on tv about a taxi back east that specialized in freeze drying pets
