really looking forward to the pink run! I know its not peoples most desired fish, but I think its a blast to pull in nice sized fish after nice sized fish on the river. its a real treat when you put in the hours of fishing for one or two of the other species.  I think its cool when you feel the pinks swimming into your legs cause they're so thick, lol  :IBCOOL:

I plan to fish for pinks in the rivers and salt this year, been counting down for a while. Looking forward to seeing peoples pics and also some more recipes, that Humpy Dip sounds like it has serious potential.

ever seen "Bizarre Foods" on tv? people eat much worse.....

Lets hear some pickling recipes. I have two I can share but will have to dig them up. One takes about a week or more longer than the other because you are salt curing the fish first. I prefer the texture of that one but the flavor of the other where you basically cook the fish before pickling.

I have a neighbor that wants to get his boat out to fish (I got him set up with downriggers this spring).  Has anyone heard of any action off Eagle Point yet (San Juan Is.)?

Way too early for pinks, just check the wdfw site for creel checks for when they're coming in.  We try to guesstimate our trips to Sekiu and all that based upon past years creel checks.

So whats the magic setup in the salt trolling from a boat, any pics of gear?

Small pink hoochies behind a flasher work real well. I always enjoy going out and fly fishing for them the best. Just find out where they are moving along the shores and toss some pink clowsers at them with and intermediate line. It's a great time when you want to catch some pinks. That's the only way I fish them in the sound

I've caught them on full size hoochies as well and coho killer spoons, watermelon and army truck.  If the fish are there, I am not sure if you can keep them from biting.  When the killer whales show up, hang on cuz the fish are going to bite. ;)

:yeah:  Pinks are in?? WT, You guys are way too excited :chuckle:  Don't buy into the hype and spend a ton of money on gear only to be let down at the last minute with news of a low run and closures. It's happened before. Don't believe in a big run till you see it :twocents:

Beer bottle caps with a hook secured via split ring work good too, their pinks/humpies they'll take anything.....

But a small white flasher with 30" behind pink hoochie or pink spoon work absolutely awesome...  But then you got to keep those nasty buggers after they swallow the hook.... :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Pinks can be fun for a newbie. They get to catch a salmon and have something to take home. Guess they are not bad to eat, just not for me. Do like to fish for them in the Snohomish with a trout rod but have yet to take one home. Must have caught 100s in my 40 plus years of fishing but unless I have a newbie it the boat that's never caught a salmon I won't even net one. Doe's that make me a snob, maybe, but I know that sooner or later a good eating fish will bite. That said if you fish for them catch a bunch. Used to be you could not keep me off the water and fishing for anything that swims. Thus my  handle. Guess what though, I'm not all that fond of eating fish!! :yike:
