This is an excellent opportunity to ask Secretary Sally Jewell questions about the Department of Interior.

For example you might ask about the closure and decommissioning of roads that access national and state public lands.  The closures and decommissioning of these roads prevents all people, including the young, elderly, and disabled from accessing the public lands where the roads have been closed or destroyed.  There are viable alternatives such as the roads to trails concept.

Public access to public lands should be maintained for all outdoor recreation, forest management, and public safety purposes including hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, horseback riding, mountain biking, rescues, firefighting, and emergency evacuation to name a few

Take advantage of the opportunity.

Thank you.

Message from the U.S. Department of Interior

"Next Saturday, September 28, is the 20th anniversary of National Public Lands Day, and we invite you to celebrate by joining volunteers of all ages to help spruce up our nation's public lands. From youth to elderly groups to the Let's Move Campaign, all kinds of volunteers will be digging in, so go to http://publiclandsday.org to learn more.

In advance of National Public Lands Day, Secretary Sally Jewell will host an online chat, Wednesday, September 25, at 1 p.m., ET, where she will discuss the importance of our nation's public lands, connecting the next generation to the great outdoors, and the President's Climate Action Plan.

If you would like to ask the Secretary a question, please send it to newmedia@ios.doi.gov, and we will try to get to as many as possible.

Good point.  The Department of Agriculture and Department of Interior are separate.

However, the Department of Interior does have control over the National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to name a few agencies.

The BLM also manages forests.

It's always a good idea to clarify things.  Thanks.

REMINDER:

The Department of Interior has control over the National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to name a few agencies.  There is still time to submit a question regarding the activities of the Department of Interior and/or any of their subordinate agencies.  In what way is the Department of Interior connecting the next generation to the great outdoors?  We need to make sure their efforts include promoting hunting activities.

The live chat will be tomorrow, September 25th, at 10:00 AM Pacific Time.
