For one, most of the winterrange for deer is on state land or private land in the Methow. Most stateland is closed to snowmobile use. Basically it boils down to people not having any common sense, such as exercising your dog or watching it run deer for fun. Guys run the deer to get their antelrs to drop. Selfish, greed what drives these folks. No honor in it. The more use or impact olks have, the less chance deer have of surviving. There is a line.

Hey Bone, What does that trash buck look like??? I love the Non-Tipicals! Did 300 head up that way today? Big snow coming in tonight is mixed rain and snow here in Renton right now. I would hate to see him get "weathered out" at the end of the hunt......

This is a great post guys I am sitting up here in alaska reading this thing everyday. I sure miss deer hunting in WA. This is also helping me to stay pumped for my kodiak brown bear hunt in April. good luck 300 I hope you get a monster. I wish I was around to be another set of eyes.

I didn't get crap for pictures of him....no excuses, I screwed up. I didn't want to get close or to push him at all. he was a longgggg frickin ways away and I was using an experiment for a set up, my 35mm film camera with a spotting scope attachment. My eyes apparantly werent good enough because what I thought was in focus was not. Phot house didn't even charge me for them. The typical was a complete blur. That was one reason why I went back this last time, to get some decent pictures so Dan could decide if he wanted to "waste a day or the gas" to go see them and shoot them for himself. He is a basic basket buck and if I remember right 8x9 or 9x7 or something like that.

Ok, got over to the wheat ranch this morning and scouted some bucks. Saw 20 bucks or so. The biggest was a 160 mule deer. Perfect 4x4 about 26" wide. Wasn't close enough for trash points.
The scoop is that there is a 7 point whitetail running around the ranch. I got to hit the other ranch tomorrow and see. Not sure what 7 point means to non-hunters but they said it was the biggest hey ever saw. And they have lived here for a few years.

Sorry for the delay, I'm dragging after a long day. Lots of hiking, glassing, etc. We hit it hard today, 50Cal in Swakane, Hairy and myself in the Entiat. Spent most of the morning with one of the locals glassing areas above orchards. Saw lots of deer including two small 4's, one huge 3, one good 3, and several other does and little bucks. Not satisified, Hairy and I hiked into Stelico and split up once on top. Not much new from before, lots of deer but no shooters. Time is running out but I plan to hit it hard until the end. I did get to eat a homemade spagetti dinner tonight thanks to the Olin family. It was way better than the canned food I have been eating.
Thanks for all the support and help on the side, I'm not sure how I will be able to pay everyone back.

Geez, 300 - one thing's for sure, you're giving that tag 110%. You must be on a first name basis with just about every buck around. Except for
one
, heh, heh. I don't think that one is going to be too pleased with how his first meeting with you turns out
. It has been fun cyber-hunting alongside, but I'd much rather be there.
We were hoping you'd get this thing done a little sooner but understand after last year's raffle hunt. You're a better man than me - I think I would have succumbed and burnt some powder by now! But like you say, it's a once in a lifetime deal, so best of luck.
Hairy - please make sure 300 get's pics & post up as soon as possible after he tags him, will ya?!!

No doubt, take a digital with you, set it to RAW if it has the ability if not the highest quality it will shoot, then max out your card. Remember to get the one or two great shots you need to take lots of bad to average ones. Thats the beauty of digital, its not going to cost you anything except a little more time to go over each one.
