Fishing the columbia out of Vantage?
« on: December 23, 2013, 03:55:40 PM »
We are headed over to Sunland  for the weekend and may drag the boat over. What if anything is there to fish for? Looking at the section between Vantage and Cresent Bar. May just go for a boat ride if nothing else.

You might be able to coax some walleye into biting.  :dunno:

We have fished for walleye there, need to poke around and work the benches with a depth finder.  Not in this weather though.

Bring a yotee rifle! I'd pull worm harnesses slow slow slow. Will catch most all fish with a crawler.

I know some guys fish walleye up around Crescent Bar but I'm not aware of any specific spots. From Priest Rapids Dam up to somewhere near Wenatchee is a Steelhead preserve and fishing for them is not allowed. I'm not sure of the ending point of this though. Maybe someone else will chime in. Check out a river chart for some likely walleye spots in Crescent Bar area, eddy's with slow water or deep structure. I would think vertical jigging with jig/nightcrawler or bladebaits very slow in the cold water would be the ticket. Or you could leave the boat and try some ice fishing. Saw a bunch of guys out in the Quincy Lakes area ice fishing last weekend. Good luck!

Been wanting to fish that area, got to be some Sturgeon in that part that got block off when the dams went in I would assume.  Please report how it was, as it has the cool factor there in that valley along the river.

If anyone has an interest,Whitefish should be really good by now.I think a lot of people look at them as junk fish. They are good for the smoker.Should be good prospects all along the river.Just find a slow drift, fish the bottom, whitefish fly, tipped with a maggot. They get really big, some upwards of 3 to 4 pounds.Great fighters if nothing else.Just a thought.

Rufus Woods is just north of vantage a bit, some nice trout and walleye there
I've slowed down enough in my old age to finally let the game catch up to me
