nosler accubond?????
«
on:
December 29, 2013, 09:08:55 AM »
Who shoots nosler accubonds on deer elk and bear? How have they performed for you? Are they accurate at long range? I was thinking about making some hand loads for a 300 Remington short mag. They would be 180 grain.

Love em. While guiding in southern Colorado and New Mexico I had many clients that used them and took many elk with that exact load. I also *censored* my bull moose this year with my 300 wsm and 180 gr nosler accubond. Bull fell in his tracks and never new what hit him. 1 bull in particular I remember I could put my fist through the lungs and he was shot at 400+yards. Hope this helps.

Many 270wsm's love the 140. I like the performance and am confident out to 500yards. Good luck.

"Are they accurate at long range?"
Accuracy is a factor of many, many variables. Bullet selection is quite a ways down the list. Most guns can be made to shoot most bullets well most of the time for most shooters.
I prefer Barnes bullets but have used Accubonds with good results.

The Accubond is more accurate at long range than the Partition. Boat tail bullet is stable. I shoot 200 Gr Accubonrd out of my 30-378. I shot a deer in New Mexico at 975 yds this year. 1 shot , 1 kill. Double lung shot.

I switched to nosler accubonds this year and love them . 2 antelope , 1 blacktail , 1 muley , and 1 elk this year couldn't disagree more . My 270 loves them too.

I've used Accubonds in my 270 win, 7mm SAU, and 300 Ultra mag. Accuracy has been great with out to 500 with the 270, 7mm and the 300 will shoot 2 inch groups at 600! 10-15 animals have been taken from coyotes to elk between the three guns.
I had always been a partition fan with my handloads until nosler developed the accubonds! I still use partitions in my short range thumpers but everything else gets fed Accubonds.

300WSM with 180 gn accubonds have been awesome for me. I got lucky with my Browning A-bolt. Not only do they have awesome terminal ballistics, but they shoot about .6 MOA with the factory ammo. All around great set up for elk and bear. Maybe a little overkill for blacktails.

I went to Accubonds from Barnes in my 30-378 three years ago. The Barnes performed great and the Accubonds even better. Since I switched a few deer and an elk so far with this years mule deer at < 600 > yards, double lunged with fantastic performance. Still shoot Barnes out of the .243 with satisfactory performance on a very large bear at 75 yards last year. Cannot go wrong with either IMO.

Ive shot deer elk and bear with my 225gr accubonds out of my 338win. Every animal didnt make it very far. Ive made shots from 10yds-550yds and the accubond expanded and held together. Ive had bad luck with barnes.

Here's a 150gr Accubond shot from my .300 WSM recovered from a Mulie just under the hide on the off side. The shot was just shy of 400 yard, I believe 379. I can't exactly recal.
This is a 260gr Accubond I recovered from a Mulie, shot from a .375 Ultra Magnum at 560 yards.
Great bullets! Accurate, good BC's. Since they hit the market it's bassicaly all I have shot for hunting in all my rifles with the aception of a Hornady here and there.

I have used the accubonds since they came out in my 300 wby and in my 30-378 and have had great results with them but have been told by some that I should shoot 200 grain in the 30-378 but the 180s have worked fine.

I used 250 nosler partitions in my 338 win mag for over 30 years. I have switched to 225 accubonds. They are a little more accurate for longer range shooting and kill just as well as partitions.

They are solid bullets and have never let me down. They do a little more meat damage then some of my other bullets but have great killing power.

shooting the 150 grain ABLR out of my 270 winchester.
myself and others have noted some issues if pushed over 3000FPS. There is one instance of going sideways and keyholing at 100 yards when pushed out of a 270 Allen Mag.
This makes sense as the factory Nosler 270 WSM ABLR loads are under 3000FPS...
I have tested them to 1000 yards at 2850 FPS, and the published BC seems to hold up at that velocity...but other velocities??? well, I cant answer that.
Accuracy at long range??? Well, there is much more than the bullet that plays into that...shoot, the factory Winchester Ballistic Silvertips are good to go out of my rifle at 700 yards...

I shoot the 165gn Accubonds from my Savage/Stevens .308 and love them. They are without a doubt my gun's favorite load. I managed to pick up 5 boxes at Cabelas shortly after they opened for $14/box. They were supposed to be $41/box and someone misprinted the price tag. They rung up $41/box but Cabelas honored the price on the shelf
Sadly, I'm now down to just under a box.

I shoot the 200 grain accubonds in my 300wm's and the 110 grain in my 25-06. I love them. And they perform wonderfully on elk and deer.

I use the 140gr Accubond in my .270win. My 2011 cow elk dropped like a rock from one, well placed shot behind the shoulder. The bullet went clear threw. I have killed quite a few deer using this load and the bullets work exceptionally well. I have never found a bullet, every animal I have shot with the Accubond has been a pass threw.

I have killed a couple animals with the 180 grain accubond out of my 30-06 at 2800 fps. I hit a deer at 40 yards, thing went through and through, with a pretty good wound. I also shot an elk at 400 yards a couple years ago, elk dropped in his tracks, I spined him. My shot was a little high, but it was high angle as well. But the damage was extensive, I think the bullet changed path when it hit the spine because it came out about 12" low of the spine through the rib cage. My father in law shoots a 200 grain out of a 300 win mag at about 2900 fps. This year he dropped an elk at 800 yds in its tracks. Elk was facing down a steep hill, quartered toward us. Bullet entered in front of the spine between the front shoulders and exited through the far shoulder. Pretty good wound, fairly large exit wound if I recall, (don't quite remember because I was hoofing it out to get packboard and take gear back while he was dressing.)

Accubond is a premium bullet that also happens to look great w/ the plastic tip (that is said to help with long range accuracy as it doesn't get deformed like the lead tip of a partition). I just wish they were cheaper!

I am also a satisfied 180 grain .300wm customer. Shoots great and results on deer have been perfect so far. I've never elk hunted with a rifle so I can't comment on that.

Love them. They make a nice pop when they hit.
I've killed deer, bear and antelope with them in my 260.
