I think most of the drivel about G&F depts is spewn on internet forums by residents of that state. They get frustrated for not drawing a Blues branch bull September rifle permit every year so G&F becomes a pressure valve for their frustration. I actually don't have much of a problem with my game department. For the most part I think they do a good job, and I feel the same way about New Mexico G&F as well. WDFW is another story. This in fact IS a huge embarrassment to AZG&F and needs to be called out, not so much to get anyone fired or publicly humiliated as much as that they need to listen to hunters more than predator lovers and do more homework first next time.
I think AZG&F does a pretty good job too, but they have it easy because they got over the 100% draw requirement (other than OTC archery deer) a long while back and their constituents have just come to understand that they won't get to hunt their own state every year. Once you get to that step, a lot of things become WAY easier because now people have to choose if they want to hunt or want to hold out for the primo tags, because you can't do both. That makes the odds for the primo tags significantly better. There are still some things about AZ that people would whine about here for sure:Imagine if you had to draw every elk, deer, bear, even turkey tag. They do.OIL odds in AZ are just as bad as here. Heck, even speed goats have max points well above 20. Up until last year, you could only submit paper applications in AZ because they cut Internet applications after consecutive draw debacles. Sound familiar?Fees are going way up. Resident bonus point for all species in 2013 = $7.50, after you buy your $32 license. Resident bonus point for all species in 2014 = $13, after you buy your $37 license. A resident (yes, resident) elk tag just went from $121 to $148. Imagine what people would say here if our resident elk tags were $148!!! Turkey (turkey!) just went from $25 to $38. These are just some examples. It's not all peaches and cream anywhere.
Its not "drivel" if the "complaints" can be documented. Its not about "internet" ranting. Its about doing what is right for the Wildlife. Wolves were never "gone" from Washington state. You would have know that if you worked outdoors for a living. Re-introducing is and was a big mistake!! but you can't tell much to a college educated idiot who is looking for advancement in his or her's career. Ever been around a "whale culvert" project!?? I've been around quite a few of these individuals, less then 10% have a head on their shoulders that can "think" things through without their "indoctrination" causing problems.I've also got 20+ years volunteering for WDFW, so I have first hand knowledge of the indoctrination that takes place and acceptance by "employees".
