flip off scope bases
« on: March 08, 2014, 07:06:16 PM »
I recently came into possession of a 1960's Rem. 700 in 30-06.  Bore is bright with no pitting.  So I'm thinking it should be fairly accurate, if not a target gun.  I remember that at one time scope bases could be had that allowed you to flip the scope off to the side allowing use of the iron sights.  Not looking for the see through designs.  As most all bolt guns sold these days are sold without irons, I thought it would be nice to have that option available for whatever calamity may occur.  Any leads would be appreciated.

I have 2 sets of rings. They are weaver pivot scope rings.  Excellent condition. $25 each set. You can order the bases on gunpartscorp.com (numrichs). I seen the bases for the rem 700 are running approx $6. Send me a pm with your cell and I can send you pictures of the rings if your interested.  I think they are what you are looking for.

I have a tip off mount on an old Remington 30-06 pump action.  It is nice if something goes wrong with the scope.  I shot a huge bear once with the irons when the scope was fogged after an evening of sitting in my lap under my raincoat.

I'm not sure what brand it is though but I have never had any accuracy issues with mine.
