Picture of my Pudelpointers

My two pudelpointers were racing down a dike when they slammed onto a point side by side. I found a rooster pheasant from god knows where hiding in the cat tails. I thought it was a cool picture.

I'm not very familiar with pudelpointers.  What is more typical, the more wirey coat or the smoother coat one.?

Shannon , i like the coat  on your latest dog. Does that dog pick up a lot of burrs or is the hair short  enough that they dont get all tangled up. When we hunt over in the yakima area it seems like i have to set aside a decent amount of time for removing burrs from my pudelpointer, but shes has a lot more hair than your dogs.

The slick coated pudelpointer is undesirable and is about 5% of the breedings right now. It used to be higher but they are getting it better. I actually kind of like the tight coat but I wish she had a beard. She handles the warm weather better than my other dog but the wiry coated dog can handle the extreme cold a lot better. The slick will break ice on cold weather retrieves but I have to watch her closely because she would go until she killed herself. Her coat reminds me of a quarter horse in the summer. Very pretty, glossy coat that really shines. I like them both but it is interesting how they can be related and look so much different. I think the slicks are a throw back to the english pointer blood from 150+ years ago.
The wiry coat picks up some burrs but I don't pull them. I just throw him in the box and he cleans himself and they work themselves out. I've probably only pulled a couple since I've had him and those were out of his beard. The wiry coat is nice after a week of hunting pheasants. He doesn't look any worse for the wear but his beard is shorter. The slick has a pink belly from running in the brush and cattails all the time.

not yet he is saying late april. I am kinda low on the list but he thinks I should still get a pup if the girls give enough pups. just crossing my fingers and hoping!

Rare breeds usually cost you a lot more.

You can usually get a quality Pointer, Setter, Shorthair, Wirehair, or Brittany for a fraction of the price and you'll have a lot more options to choose from (something for everyone).

Not a knock on pudelpointers, but something to consider. You can buy, and pay to have trained, a very nice dog for the price of some rarer breeds.

My dogs are out of Cedarwoods Kennels in Boise Idaho. I'd highly recommend him. There isn't many around here but you can see mine if you want. I know of a related pup here in Skagit County also.
AspenBud, out of the dogs you listed the only one that is reliably a water dog is the wirehair and they cost the same on average. They are around $1200 average for a well bred dog of either of those breeds. If your looking for a dog that loves the water like a lab and points like a pointer, get a pudelpointer. A wirehair would be a close second choice IMO.

If $1200.00 is the going rate that's not as bad as I expected. Good to know. Spinoni Italiano go for $2000-$3000.

I don't hunt ducks these days so that wasn't in the calculus when I made the above comment. I just know you can find a fireball of a an upland dog for $500.00 out there and it would be quality. But it would be within the "big five" pointing breeds.
