As some of you may know, I purchased a new left handed 2013 Hoyt Element G3 a few days ago. It's set at 28" DL and 65 lbs. DW. In case this information is useful, in answering my questions, after the bow was set up and tuned, I ran 3 arrows through a chronograph. The average speed was 299.3 fps. I'm shooting GT XT Hunter 7595 weighing in at a total of 440 grains.

The sight we went with was a Fuse Carbon Blade Interceptor 7 pin (only because it was actually less expensive than the 5 pin).

Well, I'm attempting to do some research on this sight, maybe even find an instruction manual, with absolutely zero success! Why is that??

Anyway, how would you all recommend that I sight it in? I shoot the occasional 3D tournament but don't care about my score, and I hunt deer and elk. I've heard, that with newer bows, setting a 20 AND 30 yard pin can sometimes be a waste, as those pins end up so close together that they aren't both needed. Is this true? Should I set a 20, 40, 50, etc., skipping the 30 yard distance? OR, Should I set a 30, 40, 50 etc., skipping the 20 yard distance? OR, Should I just set 20, 30, 40, 50 etc?

This is the first new bow I've owned. Previously, I had a 2004 Mathews SQ2 with a 3 pin sight and a 2007 Hoyt Vectrix Xt500 with a 4 pin sight. With these setups, I've kept almost all of my practice at 50 yards or less, occasionally stacking pins to attempt the 60 and 70 yard targets.

So far, I've only shot it at 20 yards, in my back yard. I hope to get up to our club range this afternoon, where I can really put some distance shots through it! Any and all help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Can't help ya w/that sight but as for setting pin distances: I'd set em up for 20, 30 etc.
Question: Are you sure you're getting 299 with that set up? That seems awful fast. Don't know of anyone getting that speed from that set up.

Not familiar with the bow or the bows speed....but with a seven pin sight I would go 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80 yard pins.

You are correct that 20 and 30 will be close...but I would rather have a 20 yard pin than a 90 and those are really your two options.

Hope that helps.

I know nothing about chronograph do I suppose it could have been off. My 3 arrows measured 298, 297 and 302.

I think I'll stick to the traditional 20, 30, 40, etc.

Your chrono's look realistic if it is a new bow.  You will be fine with a 20, 30, etc.

28" draw length and 440 grain arrows form a Hoyt CE-G3...You should buy that Chrony :chuckle:  You'd sell a lot of bows if you had guys shoot through that one ;)  That's about 20 fps faster than that bow should shoot at 65#!

In hunting you are probably not going to use those last two pins on that sight anyway.  So where the first one is set shouldn't make any difference at all.  I'd set it for 20 and if you start having issues pull it off or swing it around for a 90.  Going to be just for looks more than likely anyway.  Though 90 yards is a great distance to practice

What were you trying to find out about that sight?  It's a pretty neat little sight, but no longer available since they went to the cheaper Dual Rod.  You got the better one IMO!
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

Luckily, I didn't buy it based on the faulty chrono lol. I'd already decided to buy it. The chrono was after the fact.

Bad Chrony or not that bow should be great!  Sounds like you got it set up well too   And, other than the hubcaps, it's way more pretty than that ugly new model ;)

Hubcaps? I thought those were training wheels...

:chuckle:  Hubcaps on the end of the riser tubes.  I'll never get use to the beautiful tube work and flawless transition to stabilizer, sight and suppressor hardware.  And then they slap those ugly blocky hubcaps on the ends.  Even worse, instead of making them look nice and fitted for 2014 they changed the rest of the bow to match the ugly hubcaps   I guess everyone does like to stop and look at a twisted, bloody car wreck ;)

I think you did great getting the model you did.  I like those!

I now see the Hubcaps you're referring to.  Fortunately, mine are black and completely unnoticeable!
