New Record Blacktail? Fact or Fiction?
« on: November 29, 2008, 12:29:28 PM »
Can anyone confirm or debunk this pick/story?

My buddy from Chehalis sent me this pic with email below... searched this forum for related posts and waited a few days to see if anything popped up... couldn't find anything, so thought I'd post it up and see if any of you had more info.  :dunno:

I don't know of three rivers (I'm and northender), the guy in the photo, or Mr. Berry, so I hid the face.

"Everyone,

This is the new (pending dna test) world record Blacktail. It was shot in 1935 by Prace McDermott 12 miles outside of Castle Rock, Wash. He brought it in today to Three Rivers Archery. I was very humbled by its size. We are fortunate to have it come into circulation for all of us to see. Since the owner of the rack has done the homework on it that he has there is virtually no doubt that it will be authenticated as the real deal. "

I co-own Three Rivers Archery with Billy.  This buck was brought in a few weeks ago and is an incredible buck.  I did not see this buck scored and the pictures do make it hard to believe that it will go 184, but it supposedly has been officially scored.  The only thing that makes me wonder on the total authenticity is the fact that Boone and Crockett doesn't have it on their Trophy Watch page.  Who knows, I'll keep you posted.  It is 29" wide and incredibly heavy, hell of a buck no matter what it scores.  Hopefully it is true.

Here's another picture.

nice buck!

How exactly do you get DNA from a set of horns that were harvested in 1935? Can you get it from the skull or the antlers or.... ?   Anyone got a clue?

Hell of a buck.  Interested to see how the story unfolds.  Not sure what the whole DNA thing does in regards to blacktails in regards to club rules.  I also can't see 180+ but damn fine deer.

Very Very nice blacktail deer.  but if it goes much more than 170+ I will be shocked. :twocents:
BUT is hard to tell in the pictures...... If we had a side view of it.  Nice buck!

Awesome blacktail regardless of official net score.  I'm w/ others and definately don't see 185 inches of net bone.  Good mass, good inside spread, good G-2's and G-4's for a blacktail.  Not a lot of deductions.  I would put him at 170 net tops.  However, I would love to "eat crow" and see a new world record come out of Washington!!!

Not sure about the "DNA" thing either.  The guy who owns them said that there were a couple of people coming up from California to verify that it is a blacktail.  Apparently there is some test they can determine general area where buck was killed.  Don't know  :dunno:
