I have a palazzo break on my tikka 300 and it tamed it down a lot. I think it was $200 even for everything. Well worth it in my opinion and I haven't noticed any more noise than usual but I have only been behind it not next to it
where do i find those palazzo brakes? been looking and i cant seem to find them

and not to up on getting a bigger or different P-pad cant make myself look like a you know  8)

A brake speaks louder than a pad. If thats whhat matters to you.

Ha!   If you 270 is giving you the blues, diitch it and get a rifle you can shoot comfortably without gimmicks and crutches.  You dont want a  bigger kickpad cause it looks wimpy!?   Poor reason. Guess you could tell folks its a spacer.

It's called muzzle jump and happens with " magnum" rounds that shoot fast. A muzzle break is a good way to reduce this and who cares who is standing next to you. Just don't shoot prone without putting a mat down. Lol. Lots of dirt in the eyes.
What would life be without the thrill of the hunt?

A pad is the better way to go on the wsm's. The recoil is not that bad but when you put a good pad, like sims on them. They are a lot nicer to shoot. Brakes are great tools and I run them on a lot of guns. However if you are not wearing ear protection when hunting you will pay for it.

does sims make a recoil pad for those rifle? I would try that before a brake. a brake will require hearing protection... even for one shot. I do think brakes have a place, but not every rifle for every situation. its hard to hunt thick brush with ear plugs in.

Yes, Sims does make pads for that rifle.  There should be a note in the Tikka manual stating that the first thing a shooter needs to do is remove the stock/factory pad and throw it in the trash!

I bought the Sako A7 in 270WSM and after two clips through the gun was about ready to get rid of the gun.  Same pad as the Tikka.  Not only did the round hammer you, but the A7 also had a barrel rise that was awkward.  Put the Sims pad on and instantly fell in love with the gun!

One other thing to note is the Tikka is a light weight rifle in all practical description.  All of my lightweight rifles including the very straight stocked Kimber Montana have a barrel rise upon recoil.  If you try to shoot these magnum recoil/lightweight guns off a bag with no hand forward of the trigger guard you are going to see much more jump.  The Sims pad helps, but you still notice it more than an 8# rifle.  Start using a sling or train yourself to use a forward grip on the stock.  It will really reduce the barrel jump and improve your in-field accuracy by a good amount.  Also reduces the POI variance between shooting off a hard surface and a soft surface.

Here is a real well written article by Nathan Foster in regards to holding the forend;  http://www.ballisticstudies.com/Knowledgebase/Hold+that+Forend.html
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

whoa easy BA, my 270 isnt giving me the blues, and i have no need for a bigger kickpad, the kick doesnt hurt or have any affect to my shoulder so there is no reason for wanting a kickpad thats why im asking about muzzle breaks for the lift i am getting from the kick back i assume a muzzle break will change this rather than just a kickpad. the reason for me saying that up above is me being sarcastic :chuckle:

Get a brake threaded on it for range time.  For a few extra $20 bills have them make a thread protector so you can take it off in hunting conditions.

Don't magna port it!!!

I agree with what others have said, put a recoil pad on it like Sims

and also with that usable info rather than a jackwagon telling me to get rid of my rifle and blah blah... im going to try out a new recoil pad, alot cheaper and it sounds like it should fix alot of what im experiencing. again thanks for the good info Rad

Google palazzo gun smithing, he's located in convington right off 18 and does work out of his garage/shop. He's an old Italian that worked for beretta back in the day

Jackwagon! Too funny.. And buddy, I wasnt taking shots. Get a gun you dont have to alter and dump a couple hundred bucks into to enjoy or hit.   Jack wagon, BA?  You sure like to call names!
