Any recommendations on CVA muzzleloaders?
« on: November 18, 2014, 09:43:40 AM »
Just getting started with muzzleloading. A true newbie. Looking at the CVA northwest muzzle loaders. I see the three versions, any recommendations?  If there is another brand I am open, just seems good to buy one ready for WA ..

Any thoughts?  Feedback?

Thanks for your help!

I love my Optima NW. Never had a problem with it to date. You'll see some on here with problems having the musket caps going off. I contribute that to the fact that RWS caps are thicker and do not fully seat on the nipple. I got a new tin of them yesterday and had 4 not fire, I used a knife and slightly spread them open on one of the slits, each one went bang after that. The RSW musket caps fit super tight compared to CCI and sometimes will not fully seat, causing a click, no fire kind of deal. Add fouling to the nipple shaft and then you got a really tight fit!

CVA and Knight seem to be at the top of NW legal inlines, just my opinion.  I love my knight wolverine, but I bought it in 2001.  They are a different company now.  Frankly I wish TC would make a NW legal inline.

I really would pass on any NW CVA.

And I would also recommend any Western Edition Knight - Ultra-Lite - Mountaineer - DISC Extreme - Big Horn in that order...
