I have a problem.  Is anyone willing to help me try to recover a deer?  I will split the deer with you or you can have it.  I just don't want it to go to waste.  Staying at Benny's.  I'm learning lessons here the hard way.

I have it located and got a cart to it.  It is in a gully.  It probably will need to be quartered.  I will try on my own but I had planned on carting it out whole.

First time or fairly new to the after the shot game? If I was closer I'd help. Get it gutted for the night at least. If you work in the dark cut it in half, drag each half up the gully to the cart. Then cart both halves out at once.

Possible to cut him in half and put the half on your back and walk it out then go back for the other half? My dad, uncle and grandfather used to do that. Quartering sometimes is the only way though if it is really deep and thick. Best of luck!

I'd help, but my knees prevent me from going up and down hills. I hope the coyotes don't eat all of of it.....best of luck.

Where is it in the 101 ? PM me if you don't want to say on the forum.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

Yes, first deer.  25 degrees now so that is good.  I will get as much meat as possible on my own.  Update tomorrow.  Thanks for suggestions.

I've made a lot of deer easier to handle with just a knife in the field. You do have it gutted I hope. Locate the short rib inside the body, stick your knife between the short rib and the next rib and cut to the brisket. Then cut to the spine. Do the same on the other side and finish the cut across the top of the spine. Knee on the hind quarters, grab the head or neck and pull back till you break the spine. You should have 2 easier to work with pieces.

If you have to leave it overnight, gut him and try to hang him off the ground as much as possible...Hopefully that will make it a little more difficult for the hungry creatures of the night...Good Luck!

Sherman creek area.  Maybe a half mile but not flat.  I plan to tackle it in the morning at first light.
