I'm still hoping that someone in my family will draw one of the various OIL tags.  I don't really care who or what.  Beyond that, probably the same as every other year.

We may give up on WA elk. Has anyone rifle hunted the Sand Point , ID area out-of-state? Is it fairly easy to get tags and are there good elk there?
tags for that area are otc. Panhandle tag. I have seen pics of some big ones from up there. Havent hunted it myself tho. I havefound that most of the panhandle holds elk... just have to figure out spots they like.

Prior to all of the issues with wolves and such, I've ran into a few elk up there. Some areas have tons of elk and others...none. It's a good hunt and only 6 hours away, so scouting isn't too hard.
Wishing I was fishing...or in Wyoming

Put in for Colorado and Wyoming again but about 95% sure I won't draw. I complain about WA management and haven't been hunting elk here but have been debating doing the multiseason thing.

Archery elk for me, need to find some new areas tho, tag soup is no good! Last year archery in the NE was tuff, we hunted a lot of area and only had one bull respond. Seemed like they just would not talk to us at all....

-Scout new areas.
-cams out earlier.
-be in better shape.

Well, my job is transferring me to San Diego the end of March. No elk for me this next season. Looks like I best figure out how to hunt desert mulies! Yikes!!!

Are you talking east or west? I could see it maybe being moved back a week on the east side. But if they did that on the west side it would overlap with the late blacktail season, and they normally do not overlap modern firearm deer and elk seasons.

West side should be November 7-17 and east side should be October 31 - November 8.

I'm going to go archery elk in WA. I have never hunted elk with a bow before so I do not have high expectations.  I plan on hunting in Rimrock, but if I draw the big bull tag for the blues, that will be where I end up.  I will more than likely be in Rimrock camping to at least a week during season so if anyone wants to meet up, send me a message (I know it's too early for most to know their plan).  As it sits right now I will be at camp alone simply because most of my friends are non-hunters but I am always welcome to the idea of meeting new people, exchanging stories, and learning from people with more experience. if anyone is planning to hunt that area and needs someone to camp with, hit me up. It's kind of nice going into the woods knowing that if you don't come out someone will be looking for you!

I will start my season here in Washington with Archery deer.  Then its off to MT for 11 days of hunting with my little brother.  Hopefully with Breaks tags in our pockets but most likely just OTC Archery elk.  If we get done early enough we will try and get my bro a deer as well in MT.  If I can squeeze the boss for a few more days of vaca I will try and do a short 4 day kamakazi run into my Idaho deer spot, if not I will be back there in Oct for general rifle.

After that it will be Washington muzzy deer and elk, Idaho deer (2 tags), fingers crossed for a Wyoming elk tag, and 3rd season Colorado deer.  I put in for lots of other tags but I know I won't draw most for a few more years.  Like GotMyTags stated, I pretty much have a blue print for the next 5 years.

Year 10 of the quest for a wall hanger pure bred Rosie from the Olympic Peninsula.  I had a monster at 20 yards for well over a minute with no good shot last year ( he went right and came in head-on instead of left and broadside like he was supposed to). :bash:  Then I had him at 35yds ten minutes later with a 6 inch tree in front of his vitals for 5 minutes,  where he waited out the daylight clock on me.  :bash:   :bash:  :bash:  Maybe this year will be it.  I passed on 5 other legal bulls last season, 3 of which were within 45 yards.  Three of the five where 5x's.  I have let some really big 5x's go on this endeavor over the years, it's been grueling and mentally challenging to say the least ( one of those big ones was at 15 yds, the biggest was at 20) .  All has been done with over the counter tags.  People think I'm nuts or full of crap.  The voices in my head say I can't argue against that, at least not the first point :o

If and when I complete this quest, then it's east for a wall hanger Rocky.

May that for which I prepare never come to pass.

Quality Elk and Quality Deer toasted, cow tag toasted, got a bunch of Bull tag points, feel like Karma's tapped out in my house. Back to the big donation plan for me, don't have a plan, which is fine. Probably just donate to the cause, and keep to the same plan, family hunting time, hope to get the boy his deer.
