Hepner Oregon
« on: February 26, 2015, 07:42:43 PM »
Has anybody out there hunted this area as far as a limited draw.  I'm curious about the area and opportunities' on public land in this area.  Any conversation or a PM would be great

My good friend has access to deer tags on a private 4,ooo acre ranch in the hepner, last year they saw a wolf on the ranch.  The deer numbers are still good for now, tons of elk.  Behind the ranch there is public land.  I remember him saying the public land gets hit pretty good, other than that, I don't have much to offer.
“In common with”..... not so much!!

I hunted the area quite a bit 30 years ago :chuckle:  There were quality bulls back then.  Some smart quality bulls too...at least smarter than me :o  Saw some dandy muledeer too.  Most of them were smarter than me too >:(  If I had todays archery equipment they might have been a little more dumb as I remember a lot of bulls and a few good bucks at 55-60 yards that I passed on trying to get closer.
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

What part of the unit are you looking at?  That's our backyard for hunting, between my friends dad and uncle, plus us two we've been hunting there for some time... We have been lucky enough to draw most years for any buck but the quality elk is a tough one to draw. We usually end up with just the general OTC tag for a spike.  We've seen some good bulls.
