First of congrats on winning the auction.  I am sure you are going to have a blast and I am sure you will get lots of input moving forward.  I would try to get a hold of a couple of past winners and see what they have to say.  I am thinking the Peninsula, Quinalt area would be good.

I'm pretty sure you're not going to hunt Hancock without drawing one of their permits. I suppose if you did by chance happen to draw, you'd also have to ask if they'd let you in there for the entire auction tag season. I read on here they did let the guy in there last year, each season, with the multi season tag, but that wasn't a continuous season.
By the way, anyone know if that guy happened to get one?

according to there permit rules all game laws apply to the tree farm . since that tag lets you hunt from september to dec the only time you wouldnt be able to hunt in there ironically enough would be during elk season. the rest of the time on that tag is recognized by WDFW and since that is not a closed unit you would be able to hunt it. you would however have to buy the access permit.

I agree. Even though he paid for the governor's westside tag I highly doubt Hancock would allow someone to hunt in there without drawing one of their permits.  However,  if he did by chance draw I'd assume they would allow the hunt.

well you guys are both wrong about that. for instance if you win the west side raffle tag you can hunt it in there, just have to buy the access permit and your locked out during elk season. its in there rules. when they say all fish and game laws apply it pertains to all fish and game laws. legally you can hunt elk in an open GMU from september to dec 31 with the raffle tag and the only thing you need to hunt in the kapowsin tree fram (GMU 654) is a 350$ access permit. its the only reason i bother buying the raffle tickets for west side elk every year

You're correct but it's up to Hancock to determine whether or not they will allow him to hunt. He could buy the access permit but if he doesn't draw the elk permit I doubt they would allow him to hunt elk. Just because he can hunt in any open GMU doesn't mean he can hunt Kapowsin without drawing one of their permits simply by purchasing an access permit.

well ive actually spoken to Claudia about it so while you speculate ive had the discussion, i live about 5 minutes from the office and have been going in the tree farm for some time. im pretty sure rosscrazy was helping the raffle winner a couple years ago and he called and talked to the office about this very subject, the raffle winner could hunt his tag all he wanted, problem was by the time they looked into it the access permits were sold out. like i said its the only reason i buy west side raffle tickets. to be honest i wouldnt even mention it to the office if i did win, i would legally hunt my tag and abide by the contract i signed with hanccok for there access program. if i got stopped id present my tag ( i know Clyde so i wouldnet be to worried) or if it was that other ass hat we could wait for fish and game and they wold send me on my way. it pays to read all the fine print on stuff

Coastal Inlet Adventures out of BC has Roosevelt hunts along the BC coast that go for $25000. There has been a couple of Roosevelt bulls taken out of that area over 400 inches. The world record muzzleloader Roosevelt bull was taken there a few years back. There are a couple guys (whose names I won't say) out of the Shelton and Belfair area who have harvested a few of those bulls. As I understand it the genetics for those elk originate from the Olympic Peninsula and were transplanted to Vancouver Island and then those elk were transplanted from there to the BC coast.

How much of that $25k goes back to conservation and elk in Washington? At some point I imagine some folks will realize this isn't always about just killing a big bull.

I think some folks don't really understand how the Kapowsin elk hunting works. They don't tell you you can hunt elk on their property. What they do is shut down their tree farm for access during the general elk seasons. When you win their drawing all you are actually winning is the opportunity to access the farm when it is shut down.

bingo. they don't own the elk and they cant regulate them. they regulate the access to there property and at that point have to abide by Washington state game laws

Didn't mean to get in a pissing match here. Again, you may be correct. They may allow you to hunt and they also may not. My point is that it is private land and they determine whether or not you can hunt. I was just trying to offer some insight on an area that I am also very familiar with. Just because the secretary tells you one thing doesn't necessarily make it correct. I also know Clyde and Robert Bass for that matter. The next time I talk to Robert I'll ask him about it since he is the one who manages the tree farm. Now enough debating and back to helping out the guy who owns the tag.
